Snoopy is referring to “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord” (Malachi 4:5, KJV).

Even in the days when this strip was first printed, I couldn’t imagine a kid sitting and watching golf. One of the sports that may be fun to do, but makes snoozeworthy TV. Sundays were like that back then, all the oddball sports were televised: golf, fishing, bowling etc.

I feel like some news reports get interpreted like this lately. Or maybe all of them.

Charlie Brown: What are you all doing up there?

Linus: Haven’t you heard, Charlie Brown? There’s no tomorrow!"

Charlie Brown [shrugs]: Welcome to my world.

As one who’s lived through the age of home “bomb shelters” and learning in school how to “duck & cover” … I’m singularly unimpressed by another doomsday prediction (including the latest cow fart controversy).

There will be no tomorrow if we don’t get the COVID-19 vaccine in trials approved and ready before 2020 ends (same for the hope movie theatre chains declare bankruptcy and permantly out of business if the 2020 movies planned like Tenet, Mulan, New Mutants, Wonder Woman 1984, Soul, and Black Widow get pushed to the end of 2020 and/or into 2021 since the NYC and Los Angeles movie theatres haven’t officially reopened yet since March 2020 when the stay at home orders were launched to stop COVID-19!)

I hate the whole quietness of competitive golf. Want to show skills? Get the crowd from a garden variety MLB game in the stands and allow them to heckle. Same with tennis. It’s hitting a ball— same with baseball.

This is mentioned in the index of the recent hardcover book series as one of the few instances of “adults talking” in the strip.

I’ll leave this one alone. I feel bad for Sally. Though in the end panel, Snoopy has a point.

“I thought Elijah was to come first.”

That was funny if you were into Biblical prophecy. During these days they are waiting for the return of either John the Baptist, Jesus Christ, or King David. And I think it would be the return of Genghis Khan.

Yes, Snoopy, things have changed dramatically even television programming when there was nothing on the tube except golf. Thanks to modern science.

Don’t be silly, the world doesn’t end until August 5th, and that’s weeks away yet. There’ll be a tomorrow, and a tomorrow after that, but there’ll be no August 6th.
