Such dignity! Such resourcefulness! Such aplomb!

Excuse me while I step into another room and close the door – it’s never polite to laugh hysterically at people to their face, especially when they’re cats.

I love how they’re just so nonchalant about the giant glowing ice cream cone.

A battery-operated novelty ice cream cone is very rare indeed, Sir Figaro.

I wonder if they appreciate that Burt has tuned into them right now? They could have been ‘exposed’ to less people.

“The Argyle Sweater” is relevant today (in general; not to this specific story arc).

So shiney! I just did an Amazon search, and those lights are a real thing. Most of them are described as being night lights or desk lamps for kids, and they run on battery power. They come in assorted colors. I want one! One of every color, that is! I finally talked myself out of ordering a purple octopus like Burt’s. Not sure I’ll be able to talk myself out of this one. As long as I’m ordering something, I may as well add a purple octopus to the order. So shiney!

My beloved Petey is 16 years old today! He has a thyroid problem and has lost a lot of muscle mass, but he takes two pills a day. He still tries to help make the bed, chases down bugs, that manage to get into the house and watches the hummingbird feeder, to make sure only the hummers get the nectar, of course. He does sleep a lot, but what cat doesn’t and he is my best bud and I am so happy he is here with me and I got to make this announcement. My avatar is his picture.

Have we asked and answered this question before – who or what supplies the subtitles for the Gatos de Noticias? Is Burt bilingual or is this a meow activated translation device? Or is this another instance where I should just accept things and not overthink them?

Good morning, everyone. It’s so good to know that Tabitha and Sir Figaro Newton are safe during the power blackout. Love their novelty flashlight.

Things are quiet on the home front. Paul is doing well. Yum Yum does her morning zoomies and then finds a quiet spot to sleep the rest of the day. I still can’t wrap my mind around my knitting and count it a good day if I can manage 4 rows on the afghan I am currently knitting.

Well, does Georgia know the Orb, or does Georgia know the Orb? We all wondered how the Ceiling Cats were doing, and here we have an update. :-)

Also, someone please help me explain to my coworkers why I can’t stop laughing at the “flashlight”.

One other question … Georgia, I know you stalk this comment section: do you use Google Translate for GN dialogue? If so, I volunteer to assist with translating some of the more idiomatic expressions, which Google Translate struggles with a bit. What I don’t know, I can ask the lady who cleans my apartment.

    My own stream of (un)consciousness

Ice cream cones for every day!

Ice cream cones to light the way!

    When the storms all brew

There’s just one thing to do,

    Let your troubles melt away!

    …….

Ice cream cones, be on the mend,

Soon the storms are gonna end,

And that is all just fine,

    But always keep in mind,

Here in the orb you’ll find a friend!

If it was around Christmas time, this might be a novelty leg lamp!!

If it IS Italian, then maybe spumoni is involved!! :)

I think someone predicted yesterday that we would see the ceiling cats to day and then tomorrow another glimpse of Goldie, hoping they were right about that too. Another sighting would be a good Saturday cliff hanger.

Just wanted to give y’all a quick update on Skywalker. (For those who don’t know her story, she’s the little girl from my colony who, most likely, fell off of the roof a few months ago.) She is getting around really well now – especially since the vet never thought she would walk again at all. Her back, left leg is a little twisted & doesn’t work as well as it should, but she can chase bubbles as well as the other cats do. That leg goes out from under her sometimes on quick turns, but that’s the only real lasting issue that I can see.

Power is not translated to “Poder” in this case. “Donde la electricidad se ha ido” or actually " Seguimos sin electricidad/energía" would be more appropriate

“El poder está fuera” —> “Se ha ido la luz”: As it is right now it translates to “the power (to do things) is outside”.Personally, “Encontré” and “Siento” feel wrong, I’d use “He encontrado” and “Noto” instead, but it’s prolly just me being a spaniard and not a mexican. …Speaking of which, if mexican’s averse to using “haber” everywhere, perhaps “Se fué la luz” would be a better fit. Could someone else confirm?

Good to know the ceiling cats are all right! ¡Me gusta mucho ese cono de helado de broma!

    OT: Bratzilla

J & I went next door on Wednesday to move the computer modem to the wall adjacent to my apartment so we can have internet access. (My cable/internet has pretty much turned into a pumpkin, since PJ was paying for it & I can’t afford it.)

While we were there, M said she wanted to talk, so we stayed for a while. J went through the “I love you but I can’t live with you” thing & M was saying all the right apology-type words but J was on about “I don’t understand, what did I do wrong?” & ended up sobbing hysterically…& after we came back here I told her “YOU DIDN’T DO ANYTHING! She’s 20 & hormonal & totally self-absorbed, & you’re a giver & she took advantage of you…” Finally managed to talk her down (I think) but having been the family scapegoat growing up, she tends to blame herself for everything.

She & I have a meeting this evening with one of the building managers, but sooooo many things are up in the air right now in both our lives…we’ll see how that goes…

There’s been a vague but insistent notion in the back of my head most of the day that the lamp looks vaguely familiar to me.

The reason why finally dawned on me: Georgia has said that her mother was a librarian at the Garden City branch of the Cranston (RI) Public Library. There is an ice cream shop a short distance down Reservoir Avenue (RI Route 2) from Garden City, called Dairy Twirl. This cone is the sign that hangs over the door, perpendicular to the building (therefore visible to passing drivers). It’s been there since at least the early 1980s; my grandparents also lived near Garden City and we frequently drove by it on the way to visit them.
