I have that habit too, but now that my husband is gone it sounds weird. I mean people look at me funny. Sigh, it’s hard to break an old habit. My kids say to me " you and who else"
Maybe Earl could turn this around: “How should we do that?” “What part do you want to do?” “How can I best help you?” “Would you like us to do that now?” “When should we plan to get this done together?”
Earl she is talking about jobs that once you do them they’re done like painting a room. Her jobs are never ending. Make a meal and wash the dishes and a few hours later you have to make another meal and wash the dishes. Laundry has to be done over and over and so does most of the housework. And it is tedious and boring. Be thankful that your jobs once done stay done.
Women want to build a consensus. I’ll say; “I want to go to Harbor Freight this afternoon” when I want to go there but my wife will say; “Do you want to go to Joann’s this afternoon?” when she wants to go there. (As retirees, we normally go everywhere together)

The fat Earl goes “we, we, we, we” all the way to the end of the conversation.

My ex used to do that. My reply was always, “Who is we? Do you have a mouse in your pocket?” It never occurred to her to just ask me.

My wife does more around the house than I do, so I can’t really object when a “we” comes up.

He doesn’t need to say, “We should make dinner,” or “We need to get the laundry done.”

I don’t mind hearing ’’we’’, it’s the ’’you’’ problem.
As in ‘’You got some ’splainin’ to do.’’ Ruh-roh.

Just agree Earl… agree and ignore is easiest. If she starts on her own, go out for the paper or something.

I think WE in this case denotes a division of labor: She will think it up. and He will be expected to do it.

When I was a kid (especially in my (teens), my dad had a regular progression in his pronouncements about a project around the house:
“I’m going to….”
“Help me….”
“We’ll….”
“Now, you….”
