I’m not surprised that “kids” in their 40’s and below have tattoos, although I don’t like them. But I’m surprised at how many people in their 50s and above have very extensive tattoos. I don’t understand the appeal of bodily mutilation. There are still plenty of jobs where they’re not acceptable, at least not if visible.

I heard someone say one time that people who get an extensive number of tattoos when they get old and wrinkled will look like a crumpled up road map! I still chuckle over that comment. I can just see it!

I don’t mind seeing a small tattoo or so on a young woman. But yesterday, as an example, I saw a young woman (no more than 20), wearing short-shorts and sleeveless, and one leg and one arm completed covered with tattoos. The opposite arm and leg had some, but not completely covered. How much you wanna bet she’s not finished with this “project” ? Don’t these young people realize that they may HATE this look in 20 or 30 years?

I once “faked out” my jr high age sons by putting a temporary tattoo on my arm- a big rose on my upper arm. The looks on their faces were priceless!

Military personnel from most couuntries had tattoos as a sign of solidarity with their comrades, a reminder of their loved ones and as signs of luck, and to warn off bad luck. This was normal starting around WW1 and continues to this day. Even back in pregistoric times warriors painted their body to look fierce. Therefore it is not just “kids in their 40s” who do it. Women having tattoos is a 20th century thing and continues today as a “fashion statement”. No, I do not have any.

The nice little rose tattoo a young lady gets on her chest turns into a long stemmed rose over time. More than one flower can become a hanging garden. ;-D

A lot of money invested in tattoos. Save them for posterity! “Tan me hide when I’m dead, Fred. Tan me hide when I’m dead. So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde, And that’s it hangin’ on the shed!!” from “Tie me kangaroo down, sport” lyrics

Father and navy buddies got drunk- he hated those tats, thus I have detested tattooing . Our bodies are supposed to be the temple of the Holy Ghost, (I Cor. 6:19).

Remember this guy in the service talking about his father’s tattoo. It was a rabbit being chased by a fox and jumping into his rabbit hole. The ‘rabbit hole’ was the man’s exit. No one asked if he had a picture of it.

I’ve seen some amazing tattoos on people and while I would never get one myself, I can appreciate the artistry – and a lot of tattoos are very personal to the person who has them, so I say, to each his own. :)
