I just hope that John doesn’t try to make Mike pay for gas mileage. After all, chauffeuring him around was John’s idea!!

More than one person on a shopping trip to the mall is problematic (unless it’s a posse of friends, in which case it’s more about socialization than shopping). Invariably first one, then the other, will want to spend time examining or trying out an item while the other stands around being bored … until it’s their turn to focus on something that the other isn’t interested in. At least, that’s how it’s always been with me, whether I shop with a woman or a man … and I never go antiquing with anyone but myself!

i have never liked shopping (even for myself). now she’s badly disabled and can not get out and about. i make up a list, she tells what she’d like on it, and i “go fetch”. i quit complaining—it’s even less enjoyable shopping by myself, but i still have her to come home to. count your blessings.

When our girls were little we’d drop them off at AWANA on Friday nights, stop for a coffee, then go shopping together. For us, it was a fun date night. He liked looking at die cast cars; I was all about music & movies. He also enjoys helping me pick out clothes; he has an incredible eye for cut & color on me. We love window shopping & getting ideas for future purchases, and we’d usually pick up a little treat for the girls.

I learned that when shopping with a woman, I take along some money too so that I can shop for myself right along with her. The only problem is that sometimes women want to tell a man what to buy! I learned to nip that in the bud by telling her that I don’t pick out her clothes or tell her how to wear their makeup!

Actually. the trip was extremely helpful for Mike. He learned something very important that he could not have otherwise known, that he actually did not want to live off campus. His dad should realize how important that research was and also be grateful for the bonding opportunity, which was priceless.

Know how John feels—-went shoe shopping with my wife ONCE, spent eight hours going store to store, trying on different styles, colors, etc. —came home NOT ONE pair of shoes bought. I told the next time she wants to shoe shop that I was staying home and watching tv-I would feel like my time was better spent. I wasn’t spoken to for two days ! ! !

I go to a store to buy something, not to gawk at it for 4 hours!! Usually takes me 20 minutes unless food store.

Interesting how they’ve been dragging around all day in London checking out apartments yet dad still had the foresight to bring along luggage to change his clothes from his yellow checkered shirt into a white shirt, and Michael changed his white shirt to a blue shirt.

Big move in self-awareness for Mike, making an important decision and applying his concerns to the search. Well done, Kiddo. Dad is doing the right thing by him, even the joke about Mum :D

If Michael went to a military academy there would be no worries about housing.

He would be living in the barracks until graduation day!

Great wisdom, there! :-D Although, in my family, it’s more like shopping for shoes with my husband. He’s the one with the patience to try many different shoes — and the wherewithal to refuse to buy a pair that isn’t what he’s looking for at a price he can accept. We can try four different stores and still come home without buying anything. I’m impatient, and will settle early for something I’m not completely happy with, and that’s not great. This way is actually better.

Shopping with wives will give husbands mounds patience, as well as a lot of great material for the other guys at the office.

Living on campus doesn’t sound that bad to me, sans the lack of privacy and risk of contracting something (Some dorms aren’t thoroughly cleaned and I’ve heard cases of meningitis, bedbugs and more.). Not sure if the rental costs are any cheaper than renting off-campus…

Apparently the guy with a long beard refused to lease to Michael because he looked weird. Guess he did not both to consider a credit check for Michael. Since he dismissed Michael, guess what this guy lost: rent money!

Bigotry and prejudice come with a cost.

It was like that in one strip:

Elizabeth: “Dawn, what a lovely pair of shoes!”

Dawn: “Thank you. But they took all the fun out of shopping.”

    Elizabeth: “How come?”

Dawn: “It was the first and only pair I tried on.”

This strip feels like a missed bonding opportunity. Clearly, John is not enjoying spending time with Mike and getting a look around in London, ON.
