My favorite is the old car with the trees growing through it. Wallace must have wandered pretty far into the woods to see that. I bet his dad (I assume his dad grew up in Snug Harbor) remembers when those trees were not nearly as big.
Mom’s enthusiastic answer and her body language are my favorite parts about this strip. It’s little parental reactions like that, which of course turn out not to be little at all, that give kids a sense of well-being and self-worth. And unfortunately, not all of them get it – many would just be brushed off in this situation. Wallace sure is a lucky kid!

Why is there a Buffalo skull on the Courthouse lawn?

That seagull on the bottom row looks inbred.

There are a lot of reasons to love weekends, but the Sunday Wallace is high on the list.

Sometimes you encounter something so wonderful all you can do is point at it and say “Look! Look at this!”

Wallace is large. He contains multitudes.
Only the snow can begin to explain
(sun moon stars rain)
How children are apt to forget to remember
But not Wallace. Nor, apparently, Will Henry.
[And yes, I am an unrepentant plagiarist.]

I’m sure Sterling had nothing to do with the lawnmower.

Why IS the lawnmower in the bay? Why did the chicken cross the road? Unanswered questions of our era.

The other day I saw a mushroom with a very red top! 1st time ever seeing one. Very much like Wallace’s mushroom.

So – he tossed his old sneakers so high that instead of ending up in the water, they got hooked on power lines?

This is what could happen when not answered with monosyllabic words and adults asking the right questions. Can’t love this comic strip too much.

Why is the lawnmower in the bay?
…it’s a sordid tale, really. You wouldn’t want to hear it.

We know those aren’t Wallace’s shoes on the power lines since they went in the bay ( along with the lawn mower).

Project Time! Cut out the small square panels and rearrange them so that they tell a story,

Raise your hand if you, too, are ashamed of yourself for skipping to the end instead of looking at all the panels first
