a few years ago atlanta was brought to a halt by less than 2 inches of snow-kids had to stay at school over night, dog and cats living together etc. in the Philadelphia are we’d have said ‘pretty’
Several years ago there was a radio show on NPR (I don’t recall it’s name) that ran a contest with the prize being an all expense paid weekend to Buffalo in February. Somebody won it and reported having a good time there.
Flagstaff, Arizona is a big enough city to be entered into the “competition.” They get about the same amount of snow. But not the blizzard conditions. And it usually melts quickly. I miss snow.
I was outside of DC at a Giant Grocery in the winter. The lady in front of me was wearing sandals and shorts. I asked if she was ready for the storm. I’m from Buffalo!
We got stuck in Toronto waiting for the toll road to open. Green grass at the falls, then major dump at Buffalo and 20 miles later green again.
I have made this comment before regarding snow in NYS (or many places). If you mention “Tug Hill” to any meteorologist anywhere in the world, they will know it.
Nobody mentioned the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan? My dad has photos of when he went to Michigan Tech, in the late 40s. Two-story houses had an upstairs door, so you could get out when the snow got too deep. The other option was that once the snow piles were head high, they would put plywood sheets across to form tunnels. Let it snow!

I call it “Way over on the opposite coast”, thank goodness. I think the last time it really snowed here J.F.K. was still president.

Except in California where it becomes a water grab for the spring thaw.

As I live in Buffalo, I can appreciate this! Although I moved here from South Bend, IN. I think we got worse snow storms there.

Is that where the snowflakes gather?

Apropos of nothing, I wonder where the creators of this comic live….

Yep. I went to college in Oswego, NY….right on Lake Ontario. Minus 60 degree wind chills and snow in May! Crazy like Buffalo.

It’s not the quantity of the snow but the quality of snow removal that matters, in some cases.

As opposed by those who live in the North Country mountains where anything less than 2 feet is a bad case of dandruff.

After 1977, the word “blizzard” is a rarely used word by Buffalo’s meteorologists.

Toronto gets frigid temps, but little snow, as we’re on the wrong side of the lake.
We just send the snow down to NY. LOL

I live on the Central Coast of California. We get weather forecasts where the meteorologist gets excited about hundredths of an inch of rain.

“A snow event in Buffalo, New York….”
Been there (near Buffalo). Seen that: Four feet of snow falling in one night, yet the roads were plowed clear by morning for folks to drive to work.

I have friends in Syracuse that claim they get more snow than Buffalo, but since Buffalo is bigger, Buffalo gets the publicity. True????
