I would decorate my office space at work for Halloween I never decorated at home. For me, the best part of Halloween is candy! I love Halloween candy — the little sizes. So much fun.

Scary Cat Day – Arborist came by and removed a tree. Cats could decide between watching all the movement… and hiding from the vacuum sounding machine. Early Halloween… but for cats!

Today is:

World Teachers Day —A good teacher is worth more than any politician. A bad teacher is less than worthless. I’ll say thanks to all the good teachers I had, and there were a lot of them. I was very fortunate in my academic career: There were only six bad teachers all the way through grad school. To be a good teacher requires not only technical competence in the subject, but a difficult to define skill set. The latter is actually more important than the former, and cannot be measured by a test.

World Architecture Day —I’d like to thank all the world architecture schools that don’t teach their students a thing about materials science, for very gainful employment as a materials science consultant. Keep up the bad work.

Global James Bond Day —I could tell you more, but then I’d have to … well, you get the idea. While Bond is entertaining, real espionage is anything but glamorous.

National Apple (Brown) Betty Day —Okay, apples, brown—I assume from cooking with sugar. But who is this Betty person? Were they her apples, or did she have permission to brown them? What did the apples think of this? Is Betty some sort of sadistic apple terrorist? Are the authorities aware of her activities? Is the NSA involved?

National Storytelling Day —And thereby hangs a … tale … or perhaps a tail …

Thank you, scaeva. Hubby is a veteran teacher, now a school principal. He has that skill set which made his teenagers pay attention. Now he uses it for the benefit of elementary kids and their parents. He and colleagues need all the praise they can get.

My ex is a fanatic. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Halloween. But she was absolutely driven. It started in mid September. Decorations, ink stamps on outgoing mail, intricate costume design, haunted driveway, you name it.

A good friend said it best. “For most people Halloween is a holiday. For you guys its a season.”

Hurray! Pucky season has started!

A day all for puck, I totally agree, that would be amazing, a day where everyone is sweet, believes in mailme- sorry, mail carriers, and we all have a tiny buzzy mouse.

I wish I could decorate at school, but since I can’t stay with the decorations all day, and they would have to be disinfected every day as well, it just isn’t practical.
