“Don’t you care how I do in college…? I need a Study Lounge!”… Girl, college is for YOU, not your parents. If you’re going to accomplish anything, do it for yourself and your own future. It’s not like elementary school, or jr. high or high school, where Mommy and Daddy make you go. College is your opportunity to broaden your horizons voluntarily, or to gain expertise in some field of study that makes you a viable candidate for employment. Sheesh! Explain it to her, Dad!

No Luann, you follow the logic. You’re at a community college which is gonna give you an Associates Degree, which is better than no degree at all, but in what? You don’t appear to be taking any serious classes. Two years at a community college CAN put on a career path in the trades, or nursing, or a transfer into an university four year program, but all that takes serious commitment and work, NONE of which you seem to destined to do. But then the Fuse may be looking for a new waitress, and there’s always openings for barista’s and I hear McDonalds is hiring.

Your logic is a probability depending on the circumstances of your life journey, Luann, and not a guarantee. And depends on what you get your AA degree in what field. If art, not so much of a high paying job. If teacher, even less and you need more than AA degree. I just don’t see how you could get high paying job at CC except perhaps nursing, plumbing, electrician, welding – of which are male-dominated jobs. If you aim for a high paying job, transfer to Moony and join the rest of the crew. You can still live at home and save on room and boarding. For the time being, your logic means you are not going to get the study room. And yes, your dad is being sarcastic.

God people love to dump on Luann. Not ready to rant on that though, although it seems to unfair to me. But I have to admit that while I was scoffing that the vacant room leads up to Tiffany being a tenant, I am now becoming a convert. Tiffany needs a cheap room, her roommate would drive anyone, even her crazy, she already works at the Fuze, being around real parental influence, and Luann, who in spite of some here, is a good, loving if imperfect (normal for her age) young woman. it just seems tailor made. I call this ending in Tiffany moving in.

Hold on. Let’s pick up on Frank’s statement. He used the room rent to pay Luann’s tuition? Frank must have been charging Pru a HECK of a lot of money each month in rent! It’s a good thing Pru showed up! But now that Pru is gone, WHAT is Frank gonna use to pay Luann’s tuition?

I dunno, friends and neighbors, but it’s starting to look like the room may get rented out again after all. Perhaps next time, to an older female. A new mentor to Lu, maybe. What if the adult center where Mrs Horner was staying burns down and she needs temporary lodging?

But there may be good news. At least Luann won’t have to worry about paying college tuition Money back to the gov-mint, after she graduates.

Luann feels entitled in panel #1, Frank counter with a No. In panel #2, Luann justified her entitlement by using a sentimental declaration “don’t you care” and Frank counter with ’Prudence’s rent was paying your school fees’. Prudence is gone and will Luann pay the school fees. Panel #3, Luann using faulty logic to win the argument, making assumptions as true facts. Frank mades a “when pigs fly” statement " yeah, and a cushy retirement for me ".

    (1) Luann needs to take a class in logic or join a debate practice.(2) is Frank working on a retirement plan that doesn’t include Nancy?(3) is Luann relying on fate instead of taking a path with a destination?Or is Luann waiting for the knight who rides the mighty stallion to scoop her up and take her to the castle on a mountain? It could happen! If someone believes that, somewhere near Pitts is swamp land.

Frank is really a piece of you know what – I remember when Pru moved in there was controversy regarding if they were going to charge Pru rent at all because she was working at the Fuze. Frank is always claiming poverty but he can build a restaurant, buy a second home, etc.

I mean, yes he can do these things, but he is always trying to generate money. Also, community college is not that expensive (relatively).

So, if the room is rented, her tuition is paid. If the room is used otherwise, no paid tuition and Luann will need to work. Is she still teaching kids, or will she start working at the Fuze? THAT situation would create all sorts of chaos, me thinks. ;-D

a study lounge (whatever that is) does not = college success. Having goals and studying towards them does. Maybe this thread will move into that area. It’s a little disappointing that Frank and Nancy don’t seem to have put aside any $ for their children’s college education. But Brad didn’t demonstrate any interest and Luann could have shown it more clearly. It seems both Frank and Nancy (at least Frank) are college graduates. It would be interesting if Frank next asked what Luann was studying (so intently) that would bring her a high paying job. Or they could ask her to fill in for Pru at the Fuse so they can save the $ that went to her salary. BTW, Frank, ‘..if you think you can afford to install a home gym then surely you can pay your daughter’s tuition at the local community college. BTW, Luann ‘a home office IS a study area… without the lounging’

Where is this discussion with her father leading? I’ve felt for some time that the Luann character is going to have to develop into some kind of long-lasting arc beyond ennui and pining for romance. Perhaps this whole rooms/jobs tête-à-tête will segue into something where Luann again takes center stage.

As far as jobs: Luann’s been on the back burner so long we don’t know where she’ll be positioned when her next major arc starts up. She supposedly had the art class teaching assistant position last term. Then there was the job at Kidz 1st. Over the years she’s been shown as a babysitter, cashier at a pool, server at a retirement home, library assistant, mentor for Fay, Kidz 1st teacher and finally the T.A.

I think GnK are afraid to lock Luann into a long-term arc because they don’t know where it will end. The Quill arc was approaching (gasp) sexual commitment and marriage and it was broken off quickly, with ill feelings on both sides. I don’t think GnK are ready for that yet.

Maybe, instead of another big sister for Luann moving in, there will be another person she can mentor. Lie she did with Fay. It might be the way for her to work out her own self worth without too many story problems.
