I’m not really sure what “Flat Norm” is, but I’ve read Knocked Out Loaded and know that it picks up mostly where the 2019 leaves off, so I say go with those. We’ll get to the those first strips soon enough.
“Flat” & “Knocked”, in whichever chronological order the stories work with the strip. And, while they are running, start creating new daily strips to run when they come to an end. “4.0” is fine, but I’d like to see the return of stories arcs.
Norm Miller, stressed about marriage and all that THAT implies, heads off for a solo skiing trip only to return without any of his emotional baggage. … Based on Michael Jantze’s syndicated comic strip “The Norm”
This is what I recall when reading the original The Norm “live” run in the newspaper. The Norm kinda ended in the middle of nowhere. Been there, done that, got the book. I vote Knocked Out Loaded. …and then address the gap from today to when older Norm wakes up with kids. There’s a lot of material in there!
2 – go back to the beginning. Leave the books as stand-alone so they are special for the people that bought them. Plus, it leaves an incentive for people to buy the books.
I’m torn. I really love the Norm, and I would be on board with starting over, but I also think things should keep moving forward. I vote for moving forward.
Thank you so much for your comments! For the record, there were 200+ replies across GoComics, Facebook, Patreon, and emails. The vote split 78% for Flat Norm/KOL and 22% for start at the beginning. There was one vote for “Please stop cartooning” and one vote for “Ship Reine out of the strip.” LOL!
The best way to support my work is to buy a book or sanity sketch or original strip at jantze.com (all are signed and/or doodled). But, seriously, thank you for clicking through the strips here, too! More clicks, more royalties. You are the best!
If you want to start at the beginning of “The Norm 1.0” go to https://www.gocomics.com/thenorm/2012/01/09 and click, click, click! Happy New Year!
