For the record, the piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori circa 1700.

    The strip debuted on April 17, 2000, 24 years…and one day…ago.

That’s true. But if you look up the origin of the real Smokey (check Wikipedia), you’ll see that “The” was not part of his name. I’m guessing the songwriters had an extra beat in the song, and filled it with “The.”

I once knew someone named Phurst, only her name was May. She was always a month late for everything! ;) (Oh, by the way, it’s Smokey Bear, not Smokey The Bear.)

I remember this happening way back in the 60s. I woke up to see it snowing. Radio said “Schools closed!” By 9:00, the snow had stopped and melted, and the sun was shining. Ever since then I’ve been referring to it as the day Mother Nature said “April Fool!”

Hey! There’s a baby named Ace on “General Hospital”, too. (This has nothing to do with this strip. Just thought I’d throw that in.)

Check the date on the Monday strip. There was no February 29 in 1974. Maybe GoComics is skipping today so that the remaining strips for the week will line up properly, keeping the Sunday strip on Sunday.

If there is about to be a significant change, I’m hoping it’s a new author. I’ve never really been a fan of the current one. Too cutesy. Animals that talk? And Walt is still alive? He’d be about 124 by now. I assume the characters are not aging normally anymore. What we need is someone who can channel Frank King and Dick Moores, take the timeline back to 1986, and start again from there.

Aww. Those plastic bags kind of look like bunnies. Maybe on purpose? They’re multiplying!

Or, even better: Hey Michael, bring back The Norm! I like reading the classics, would like to see new strips. If not daily, maybe Sunday?
