Ferrets are furry, springy noodles on amphetamines.

I may have hubby get out my ferret tarot deck. It’s hilarious. The deck captures their nature well.

Do NOT put them down your trousers, no matter how much you may be urged to. Trousering ferrets will result in the worst sort of doom.

But do the hats represent the characters? Do we have a ferret chef, for instance? I want to see what she/he will create in the kitchen. And a wizard! That could be trouble. And it looks like we might have another detective in the fedora.

I want names, too. I’m sure they have suitable names.

And, by the way: Hi, Sophie! Hi, Tommie! Nice to see you again.

The white ferret in the fedora is reminiscent of when Lupin first met the Woman’s sister, aka The Intruder.

On Friday’s strip, there was a reference to the first Disney cartoon of Winnie The Pooh which led to comments including one from myself. I mentioned that I have three autobigraphical books at home. I still have them and I have looked them up in one of my three bookcases – I have two bookcases in my bedroom and one in my living room. I find that I incorrectly remembered the titles of two of the books. The correct titles are The Enchanted Places, The Path Through The Trees and The Hollow In The Hills. I wrongly remembered The Path Through The Trees as The Way Through The Woods which is actually an Inspector Morse mystery.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Iggy: So if we follow the arrow, the auditorium should be down this corridor.

Beatrixia: Probably on the left-paw side.

Iggy: Where did Iron Glove go?

Obadiah Opossum: I saw him head down the corridor. Or rather scurry.

    Violet-Ifa: That’s a chipmunk for you.

Iron Glove: I found it! You guys coming?

    Iggy: Be right there.

Bea: Did you just hear something?

    Vi: It wasn’t giggling.

Obie: I know who makes that sound. Dooky, is that you?

Dooky Ferret: Who wants to know?

    Obie: It’s me, Obie Opossum.

Dooky: Obie! Long time no see!

Obie: How come you’re not wearing a hat?

Dooky: Ah, now that’s quite a story.

For a moment when I read Sophie’s description of the ferrets (panels 7 and 8) I thought she was talking about Ora Zella! She seems to be handling the commotion well – the hats must have won her over.

If you asked my electrician husband what ferrets do he’d say “destroy in wall wiring”. They will eat right through a wall and get in there. He’s repaired several homes with that issue including one of his own years ago when the ferret went missing. So keep an eye on those ferret folk. They can be expensive.

It will be perfectly plausible, henceforth, to blame any missing items on these ferrets. Ferrets’ scientific name—Mustela putorius furo—basically means thieving stinky mouse-eater. It’s best to give them a lot of toys to hide so they leave your stuff alone.

Fostering any pet is mega-cool! As far as ferrets go, I recall a few from my university days at FSU and up at the U in Tuscaloosa. They are lively little devils and will chew things up if allowed to. They eat meat obviously and one of the ferret owners I knew who was in grad school in zoology at UA told me a cardinal sin was to feed the little guys cat food even though both are carnivores but good kitten food could be used in a pinch if one had no other options according to her vet.

Another dude I knew said his ferret would tease his roomie’s cat and then hide under the sofa when the offended feline decided that a pursuit was required; just like Ora Zella was infuriating Elvis this week but my friend said his ferret “Zippy” was relatively well-behaved.On the negative side: a fraternity slacker I knew from my FSU days claimed his ferret would drink a shot glass of beer if offered but this nimrod was a piece of work. He did not make it past his sophomore year at FSU before getting recalled to his sleepy North Florida/South Georgia town (I think he was from either Valdosta or Live Oak) due to having a “Delta House, Bluto-like GPA”. Anyhow, I would not be surprised if I saw this guy in the news for doing something truly despicable or being a very powerful politician or bureaucrat from his county or more likely: both! Some people should not be allowed to have pets (or procreate for that matter).

As a Realtor for over thirty years I have seen quite a few strange things – and I have seen a couple of homes made unlivable by keeping ferrets…In cages perhaps – but given the run of the house – just burn it down after.

    Carpet sharks!

    .

Long ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, I worked at a major pet-supply retail chain that allowed people to bring in their pets. And one day a customer brought in a trio of ferrets, all decked out in harnesses and leashes. All of them were supremely curious about everything, and one of them actually bounded up onto my cash register to get some petting from me. It was such a bright spot in what had been a dreary day.

actually, cats and ferrets usually get along great … especially if they play “weaselball” How this works is you put said ferrets in an exercise ball…. eventually they learn that cats love smacking balls around so they bump the cats until cat smacks the ball across the room which delights “weasels” to no end sometimes other cat joins in at the end of hall ……. the other version is chase the weasel rodent learns that if they roll around feline enough they can get a chase going and they don’t mind if feline cheats by pouncing off the couch because they know they can get away and feline will chase them even more …….and yes i know weasels and ferrets and weasels are related but arent the same…… I used to tease my roommate by calling her ferrets weasels to the point all I had to call out was "Hey weasels " and they’d roll out ……
