The confederate states seceded. They quit America, and then took up arms against it.
confederate soldiers were traitors. slaughtering Americans, because the confederates wanted every black man woman and child in America to be the property of a white person.
The “states rights” they fought for was the state’s rights to keep black slaves.
Look at the articles declaring secession that came from the slave states.
Look at the one from south carolina, haley’s state.
Not ONE of them mentioned the ostensible injustices of America’s tariff system, or high taxes, but they ALL specifically, passionately addressed the absolute NECESSITY of preserving the institution of slavery.
south carolina declared: “Many Northern states refused to enforce the fugitive slave act; and many of these states have also passed personal liberty laws that make it harder to retrieve alleged fugitives.
An increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations.
In many of Northern States, the fugitive is discharged from service or labor."
And THAT’S what you’re defending when you defend the confederate states of america, and the war that THEY started against the UNITED States of America.
The leftists are suddenly interested in Haley……..hmmmmmmm……..one cartoon featured her yesterday and now two today.
Yeah, she flubbed that one, kinda like when candidate Obama said in ‘08 that he had visited 57 states and had one more to go. It happens. We have a sitting Supreme Court Justice who can’t even define what a woman is.
I like how Clay drew her mouth….What does it mean when you talk out of the side of your mouth?[US] to give completely different advice or opinions about something in different situations.
Politicians need to be careful with what they say, wouldn’t want to offend some possible voter. Mind, trump offends everyone and folk love it, but then he never was a politician.
The GOP is the collective Trevor Goodchild from Aeon Flux at this point. Trying to rewrite history so that they can move on with their own agenda, regardless of the voting masses.
Haley’s original comment was accurate. The seceding that resulted in war was caused by the issue of states rights, but that right was slavery. The sad thing is you can see she knew she was being baited, and she took the bait anyway.
A looney toon today, much in line with Payne’s looney toon for context. Nikki Haley, as former Governor of South Carolina, stated later that it is a given that slavery was the issue. As governor in that state, she was well aware of the slavery issue, and just assumed all were too. I bet she also knows what a woman is though.
“One did not need to own sls to commit to the broad Confederate national vision that was based on sly, or to fear the outcome of sly’s destruction. In fact, prosly ideology had implications for every white Southerner—as theorists consistently and loudly proclaimed that abolition of sly would unleash a cataclysm of re and m***er."* ~~ by CHRIS GRAHAM/The American Civil War Museum
I’m sure you’re familiar with the Cornerstone Speech by VP Confederacy Alexander Stephens in 1861:
“Our new government[’s]…foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests upon the great truth, that the no is not equal to the white man; that sly—subordination to the superior race—is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth."
Sounds like a rallying cry to me. Considering about a third of the nation’s wealth was tied directly to slavery, I could understand taxes being an element in the war, but history says it wasn’t the main one. But such a well educated alleged person as yourself knows that. Right?

Ask modern day Republicans if slavery should be a states rights issue. I’d bet that at least 50% would say yes.

Dunno why they call it the Civil War. It wasn’t very civil. In fact, no civility at all.
