Janis, don’t forget the little extra effort Arlo adds. His punctuation and capitalization are also spot on. I know it drives the kids crazy!

Great. Just as when I take effort to choose the right birthday card, the media is significant to the message.

Heh.. I hear the same thing about my texts. However, that did help a friend I texted verify it was me, since I was the only one she knew who created grammatically correct texts. I spent too many years learning correct grammar to throw it away now.

Text “speak” looks like it should be written in crayon. It is sad to see that more and more young adults don’t know how to write any other way.

Your criticism is incorrect. Arlo has a dangling participle in that sentence. He should say : “then I’ll be (heading for) home.”

I was horrible with English class when in school so I really worked hard to improve myself because of the job I had at the time. Now when I text or email I’ll review at least twice before sending.

Considering how often lack of communication adds to breakup of marriages, Janice should feel lucky he communicates at all.

I have the attitude that text messages are more akin to being ’’coded’’ messages that have to be resolved.

I was late to the party in getting a phone that supported texting (mine was company issued). When I got one with texting capability I texted my daughter to let her know. At first I was concerned she might think it was an imposter, but then I realized it would be obvious from my style.

This is SOOOOOO me! My spelling and grammar are correct on nearly all of my texts. However, on the receiving end, I’ve learned to decipher many a text.

I briefly engaged in an email correspondence with my uncle’s wife. I use full sentences and proper grammar if I do say so myself, but my aunt (in law?) complained that I didn’t end my letters properly. I didn’t feel emails were formal enough to warrant such treatment, so I experimented with ending my letters “END TRANSMISSION”. I don’t think she got the joke.

As I wrote in my much longer response to Lyrack (far above), I think that at the very least, sending a message that is grammatically correct is just simple, common courtesy! Otherwise it’s saying that “You’re not important enough for me to write this more clearly!”.

Someone else might have already mentioned this. If so, I apologize.

Arlo was not completely perfect, at least in terms of old-school punctuation. It should have been “…and, then, I’ll…”
