I used to wonder how the phrase “Elvis has left the building” arose. It seems that when the King would give a concert, the fans would demand encore after encore. He would oblige them for a while, then finally just not come back onstage. To get the clamoring fans to shut up and go home themselves, the organizers would announce (probably repeatedly until it finally sank in) that “Elvis has left the building”, and therefore there would be no more encores!
Clearly, Paulie was a figment of everyone’s collective imagination. The idea of going through a mirror has been done before, by the way – the latest iteration, to my knowledge, was Kurt Vonnegut’s (I think) Breakfast of Champions. Perhaps I’m wrong, if someone wants to put me straight.
It’s amazing Paulie is able to stay on Eddie’s shoulder given the Captn’s proclivity for paranormal adventures. Perhaps that’s why he’s usually looking the other way.
Funny thing mirrors as portals. Supposedly 5,000 years ago they were and beings very different from us exist there of outré and glorious, weird forms. There was communication and traffic between worlds that went on for a long while till one day the beings of the mirror attacked us fighting a monstrous war. It was the magick power of the Yellow Emperor that ended the slaughter. By closing all portals and making every vision of the other side to copy in reverse what we do. However, after 5,000 years even that spell is growing weak.
There will be several telltales of that change: from the sound of clashing weapons to the mirrors not showing our reflections properly to a band of light. When they attack, they will have help from the fish of the seas. Fish in armor? At least one has been found washed ashore years ago.

Remember? I said Paulie would have some issues with all this…

His reflection is upside down, so going in there could be disorienting. Smoke from his pipe is also missing.

Of course, stepping into the mirror is the logical step. Duh.

I hope Paulie, who’s really an innocent bystander at least by cat standards, wasn’t harmed or inconvenienced.
