And you really have to rely on people telling you how the silly thing works. My first mobile phone came with a thick manual that showed all of the menus and sub-menus. My latest phone came with a slip of paper that shows how to connect the charger.
I’ve had an iPhone for about ten years, and I’ve never heard of that trick. Maybe they should put things like this on a sheet that would come with the phone. It would make things a lot easier.
On Android you just hold it for a second and then it goes to a magnifying mode where you can adjust the cursor quite precisely. Not sure if that’s the default or it’s linked to the magnifying modes I use.
Or, in some cases, use and carry around a stylus. I’ve got one that works great on my Samsung Galaxy (Android). It can tap icons that are so incredibly small, you wouldn’t be able to with just your fingers.
Don’t have to use the space bar at all, just press and hold on the text box and slide your finger around, and the cursor and magnifier follows. Works on both iPhone and Android.
I am having an issue locating the space bar on my phone. Back up, I am not finding a keyboard on my phone…. (Whatever makes a space on a virtual keyboard can hardly be termed a ‘spacebar’)
that does not seem to work on my i phone. I hold it down and still can not select to place the curser anywhere I want. It is just as difficult to get it where you want without holding the space bar down. What am I doing wrong?

Back in the day, new electronics purchases were so rare that I would read the manual from cover to cover. Now they don’t even give you a manual and you have to discover features by accident. I didn’t know my phone could become a Wi-Fi hot spot until I left it on in my pocket and it got to that feature by itself.

This one touches too close to my hatred of phones. I want to be smarmy and say “get a real computer” but the issue is really deeper than that.

Another nice iPhone tip:
Hold the phone sideways and the keys become much wider – easier to press.

Nice product placement, Pastis. They pay you much?

My android phone does that, only I don’t have to hold anything. I just place the cursor and then I can drag it around by the little bubble underneath
