My son had a friend when he was about 12. The friends homelike wasn’t physically abusive, it’s just that his mother and father favored his sisters and paid absolutely no attention to him. He went everywhere with us, vacations, everywhere. This lasted until they moved 3 years later. I hope I and our family left him with some good memories. Sometimes that’s all you can do. He was such a sweet boy.
Notice how much kinder Elly is to other people’s kids than to her own.
I wonder if her “redecorating” includes buying new (and expensive) glassware, china, cutlery, and cookware. Some people want more than to just "keep up with the Jones’ "—they want to surpass them!!
I suppose towels and kettles might be welcoming but no baked casseroles, fried chicken legs or home baked cookies? That’s what my mom brought as a house warming for my first teen college apartment.
Looks like Gordon has already been busy and hard at work. Gord has already painted the walls of his room from that sickening yellow color to a nice friendly gray color. Or is it a chocolate brown color. Hard to tell. Maybe the paint is from an active self changing billboard?
My mom passed in 2013, but she had Alzheimer’s and while we were able to keep her at home she was completely gone mentally for many years before that. My how I miss those hugs…
My mother has been gone for several years now. I miss and her hugs. Luckily for me, I now live in Mexico where giving hugs is a common way to say hello to friends and family, no matter their age!

You never outgrow the need for a maternal hug. It doesn’t have to be your mom.

As a father and now a grandfather, I can attest to the fact that a hug converts all the small discontents into the essence of pleasance.

Elly gets it. She realizes that A Simple Act of Caring Creates An Endless Ripple. Gordon will be part of that ripple that passes it on when he can.
