Kids: They think everything is so hard!

Calvin looks like he’s making a normal snowman there. He really must be stressed. That’s so unlike him.

Hmm, Calvin disorder. Bet you’ll find that under another name in the DSM-5!

That’s cool. Calvin is learning that sometimes in life you have to choose between conflicting goals.

Yep. Cal figures more of his usual antics won’t do any more damage to his reputation.

Yeah! It is hard figuring out when to start being good. (I suppose that Christmas Eve is too late.)

The eternal struggle

Today is my fifty-sixth birthday. I have had presents from my sister and brother-in-law and from my oldest nephew and his family. My oldest nephew was born in 1979 which is the year Calvin was born in if we accept that Calvin was six in 1985 when this marvellous strip began.

I think Calvin needs a couple of Christmas’s with ’lumps of coal ’ in his stocking ! ! ! !

I vividly remember my childhood, having to be SO good during Christmas. It caused me a lot of stress; add to that the fact that I was raised Catholic, with its added behavioral stress. My husband & I didn’t do that whole “be good or Santa won’t bring you anything” to our girls so that they could actually ENJOY the Holiday.

For a six-year old, Calvin has amazing executive function.

Calvin’s “deep down” is as shallow as it gets…

In other words, Calvin will have to choose between presents and being himself!

Who is this filthy creature, this troll?

It’s an age-old struggle. Good vs Evil. Can we pretend to be good long enough to get what our evil little heart’s desire.

Most of us have an internal struggle from time to time between the urge to do what is right and to do what is wrong. I know I do.

Don’ fret Calvin, we doubt it too.

You have to have the will, Calvin,the will to change….

You know, Calvin’s namesake would probably agree. If you’re predestined for reprobation, then you are and that’s all there is to it.

Dilemma stress – only indirectly caused by the holidays

Ahhh.. Calvin is becoming a true capitalist…. LOL. Good that Hobbes is around.

Nature is such a challenging, delicate balance.

Observation tends to agree.

He represents and entire generation that was pampered from birth and had too much time to be introspective about feelings

Well at least he is self aware to the nth degree.

Maturity means you are existential like that more often than December.
