   Memorial Day was first officially practiced in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania in October 1864. Another was held in Charleston, SC, where Black freedmen and White “Northern abolitionist allies” hosted an enormous and historically significant program on May 1, 1865, at the “Martyrs of the Race Course” cemetery where 257 Union dead were buried.

   Use a USA search engine like Go Go Duck rather than woke Google. You will find photo of a woman lying face down, grieving, in front of a grave at Arlington National Cemetery morning a soldier who died for their country. There are others, flag-draped bodies carried by caissons and limbers, by honor guards from aircraft, 21 gun volleys (not salutes), both Union and Confederate soldiers are honored.
