I always tried to trade my PB&J sandwich with the Italian kids. I especially liked the eggplant sandwiches. Eggplant slices cooked in a casserole with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese layered on to a fresh French roll. Mamma Mia!
I’m with a group that make about 160 PB&J sandwiches on Sunday afternoons. We then take them downtown and combine them with fruit, water, clothing to help the homeless.
A peanut butter and jelly sandwich buttered on both sides and grilled is great. There used to be a diner just past the easternmost toll station on the NY State Thruway that had a desert with a toasted pb and J sandwich topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce and whipped cream. Heavenly taste but hell on the waistline.
I love PB&J, and I thought that it was impossible to mess up that combination. But a coffee shop I went to grilled the sandwich, and I didn’t like it at all. I see many commenters here do like theirs toasted or grilled. I still like the coffee shop; I just made a mental note to ask them not to grill the sandwich if I order it again!
I have it once a week for my work lunches. Or when I dont feel like anything else to eat but a PBJ. Crunch or Creamy I like them both with Strawberry jelly
PB – never with J. I used to bring the sandwich home if mom added same. Had a half sandwich for lunch every school day (and a bunch of other days) from first grade through junior high (less a week or so of school lunches at the start – see next paragraph). One day mom sent a full sandwich figuring the half must not be enough – I brought the second half home.
I have always been a picky eater (which for some reason surprises my 94yo mom – forgotten?) so school lunch was problematic. They made one eat everything on the lunch. Imagine a fat 1st grader arguing with “the lunch lady” as I was throwing out the cake that came with the meal. She said I had to eat everything, I said that I was not allowed to have dessert on a regular basis – it was suppose to be a rare thing to have dessert – and definitely not for lunch. I also argued over the salad – I would have been happy to eat it if it did not have dressing on it. (Still will not eat a salad with dressing on it – ick.) Much easier to bring that half pb sandwich.
When I was in junior high I had an amount equal to eating school lunch everyday added to my allowance so I could have same every day if I wanted. Instead I continued with the pb sandwiches – both to avoid arguments with lunch staff and to save up the money. Took my parents and middle sister (baby too young to go) to see “Fiddler on the Roof” on what I saved up. (Tickets were MUCH cheaper then.)
Once I hit high school I stopped eating lunch. Only have been eating it again since I am with my husband ALL the time (which mostly started before the pandemic). Guess what I have for lunch on days he does not insist eating out at Wendys (do not like eating there – but it makes him sooo happy) – a full pb sandwich – he gets upset if I only eat a half sandwich.

PBCC (peanut butter cream cheese) or even CBCC (cashew butter cream cheese) for me; I somehow don’t like J with my PB

Yes, I loved PB & J sandwiches as a kid. One of my aunts introduced me to cream cheese and jelly sandwiches too.

Franz Buttermilk bread here in Montana. Best bread I’ve ever had. BLT for my favorite as a plugger with good fresh tomatoes.

Mine is thick cut warm ham on a buttered bun so that the butter melts into the bun.
