It’s interesting how alien the concept of a tail seems to humans, since it’s basically a fifth limb…then you realize the concept of limbs is probably equally hard to comprehend for snakes.
Calvin wondering how strange it would feel to move tail muscles that he doesn’t have, makes me wonder if a snake wonders the same thing how humans feel moving leg muscles to walk when the snake doesn’t have legs to walk?
Really, I’ve gotten this far down the comments and no one has mentioned twerking. Check it out, Calvin, or maybe not. For sure, that’s one thing that Miss Wormwood doesn’t teach…
Most of us know about our little vestigial tail bones. Now I’m wondering about what happened to our caudal muscles and nerves. Do we have vestigial ones? What do they do?
This always reminded me of how the cat my family had for much of my teenage years and early adulthood would flip his tail around. I always noticed that felines have more precise control over moving their tails than dogs do.
and the more you think about how some things are done, the harder they are to do. (ask someone how they tie their shoelaces f’rinstance… I’m betting their first reaction is uh……)
Tails are actually in our genes… babies are born with the vestigial remnants. A very few actually have short tails. Also love Calvin’s ‘Tiger Stripe’ t-shirt.
A little googling taught me that domestic cats’ tails are moved with six muscles on each side. But I was really gobsmacked to see thatdomestic cats’ ears each get 32 muscles for movement!
If you ever get old enough, you can take biology, and learn that the Gluteus Maximus is your main butt muscle. We found it both enlightening and hilarious, if I remember correctly.

No “butts” about what Hobbes said.

It’s not butt muscles that control the tail, it’s tuna fish sandwiches and tummy rubs.

You don’t have a tail to wiggle, Calvin, so don’t worry about it.

I want to know how birds grow multi-coloured feathers. Not just multi-coloured, they coordinate them.

I’m with Hobbes. Although if your butt muscles don’t work properly for whatever reason, it could be an issue.

You know, as many animals as have tails, I would think tail biting would be more common.

As long as your butt muscles can hold everything in when you’re out in public, that’s all that matters.
