It’s sad that this country puts the selling of more guns over the safety of our children, that they have “mad dog” drills so they know what to do when a shooter hits the school.
My local paper had letters to the editor from 2nd graders. Most mentioned shooter drills, and others wanted increased security-metal detectors-at the entrance. (Head shake, sigh) The day after they had letters from 7th graders, most of whom wanted adults to pay attention to the planet. They want adults to stop destroying their future.
When I was a kid, we had air-raid drills and fire drills in school, but I never dreamed I would grow up to live in a world where active shooter drills have become the norm in our schools.
We had fallout shelter drills and fire drills. Hated the fallout going down into the basement auditorium. It was roomy and not gloomy, but maybe it was those big yellow signs that were a little unnerving.
Kids say the funniest things! My four year old grandson came out with the following…his dad takes a stern sounding deep voice when he’s in trouble, and on Sunday they went to his in-laws church to hear their family of five sing together. Jack is the older teenager and his voice has changed, so when listening to them sing, my grandson asked his dad (my son) “How come Jack sings with a grumpy voice?!” I love it!Their view of the world…
I was talking to a member of my church one Sunday morning and she had mentioned that there had been reports of a bear in the area of the church. I said to her, “Well don’t look at me. I keep my clothes on around here.” She said that I would fit in quite well with her family as many liked to joke around. :-)
they haven’t started bear drills yet here in hokkaido, but they might be a good idea since we do, in fact, often have bears wandering around school grounds…

Don’t worries, kid. I’ll never comes into school. The last time I was forced to go into that miserable prison was when me was a cub.

Seems you would apply the opposite solution to fires and bears. Lock up vs exit the building.

We never had “Duck and Cover” drills, but once we were told not to go home for lunch because of a bear sighting in the adjoining park…
