He was impeached by Congress while he was in the office. The trial was put off by Murderous Moscow Mitch to then make the claim that he can’t now be impeached. It’s now up to the GQP to let him get away with his criminal behavior. He also needs to be prevented from ever running for office again.

Impeachment has nothing to do with removing him from office OR making him look bad! (He doesn’t need any help from anyone in that department.)

It’s about that fact that if we, as Americans don’t let the world know that we’re not okay with people attacking our capitol and our Democracy, it’s just going to keep happening until America is finally destroyed altogether!

It’s about safety, justice and accountability!

So I had this house mate who, it turned out has been pocketing the money I gave him for the utilities. He’s been cooking crack in his bedroom. But he left before I discovered all the things he did to me. So, he’s already gone, and I should just let it go, right? or I could go ahead and bring the law to bear. Which one makes the most sense?

More bullshit from the Right. The POINT is twofold: nobody should be allowed to get away with such things (treason?) without sanctions. More to the point – if the second impeachment is passed by the Senate (which it should be but the Republicans will once again refuse to do their Constitutional duty!) – then Trump would never be able to run for president again. THAT us certainly worth the effort, no? DUH!

The Worst President Ever is Above The Law is what Scott is saying. The majority of voters know now what a mistake Trump has been for America and even FOX NEWS. Now the Republicans are fearful of Trump’s Base and looking for way out from having to show their cards in this poker game of Texas Hold ’Em.

Maybe Ted Cruz would be a great attorney for Trump ? I think he can spell ‘United States’ correctly. That’s a start.

    1) There is precedent for impeaching someone already out of office but for actions they committed while in office 2) The penalty — which would be of GREAT benefit to this country and probably the Republican Party as well — is that the Orange Malevolence never gets to run for office again. 3) Another crucial benefit of conviction is a warning that such seditious behavior will not be tolerated, especially in an effort to overturn the election (which is the most unAmerican of acts)

You missed the part about preventing him from ever holding a federal office position again, but if you want to play that game, fine. Since he’s now a “private citizen”, he should be arrested, charged in federal court, and incarcerated as a flight risk until his trial comes due.

Conviction by the Senate, while it would have no effect on Trump per se other than the stinging rebuke he so richly deserves, is a necessary step before Senate Democrats can vote under the 14th Amendment to bar him from holding future office.

If Trump is truly guilty of sedition, treason, inciting insurrection (or in chuckie schumer’s case – “inciting erection”) then why hasn’t the DOJ started an investigation and impaneled a grand jury to review the evidence and indict Trump and put him on trial? Every one of the accusations are federal crimes.

Yeah, the hypocrisy and the double standards the Right can, with a mere yawn, casually hock up and spit out are things not easily imagined til one is sitting, with jaw on the ground, watching it LIVE! Imagine the outcry from, say, Fox News, the Republicans in Congress, and their supporters if there were videos of Ilhan Omar posing ala Al Qeada with an AK-47 promising blood would flow if she and her constituents didn’t get their way. But if a white lady from Georgia does it, crickets…

The Dem House is doing the Right thing. A second impeachment for inciting an insurrection is not only justified but required of good governance. Whether the Senate convicts before or after Dump’s leaving office is not going to change the fact that Dump was impeached twice in one term. He might be able to be tried for treason even when out of office, but that might prove too divisive.

If an impeachment conviction is off the table because he’s no longer in office (or so the argument goes), then I’d say his immunity from prosecution is no longer operant and criminal charges can be brought.

If he can’t be held accountable under the impeachment provisions (or so the argument goes), how DO you suggest he be held accountable?

This impeachment is really not about Trump. It’s about preserving democracy from the next autocrat. If there is no penalty for Trumps behavior, then the next autocrat will incite more riots and a coup. Republicans know this but are still fearful of Trump and his base.Anyone with integrity will convict him.Republicans fear losing a primary battle to a Trump supporter. What they should fear is losing multiple congressional seats to Democrats running against supporters like Marjorie Taylor Greene. Most people (70%) don’t believe the conspiracy theories.

Without STRAWMEN the right would have nothing to talk about. The strawman in this instance being that the 5th panel… the reason for impeaching him is NOT to make him look bad… that has been done quite thoroughly by himself. The reasons… which they continue to try to ignore, include: setting precedent for this unprecedented treasonous act; preventing him from being able to hold Federal office again, because a lot of the country was just fine with the treason; stripping him of his tax payer funded post presidency salary, secret service detail, and other benefits; finally holding him accountable for once in his life; and hopefully discouraging others in the future from doing the same thing.

In fact the only reason the right doesn’t want to convict him for this obvious treasonous high crime is because they don’t want to look bad… which they will… if they vote to convict they will look bad to the rabid Trump base… if they vote not to convict they will look bad to true Americans who care about our laws, our country and our democracy.
