    What utter BS.

But we CAN fix it for you, Mr. Snowflake. In order to force big tech to be a public forum, all you have to do it nationalize the tech firms. Wasn’t that simple? And it gets rid of all those nasty rich stockholders too. Win, win!

So “conservatives” have spent years and years slashing taxes and blocking antitrust endorsement, so successful tech companies can accumulate huge stockpiles of cash, buy up their smaller-but-growing competitors, and dominate their markets. And it turns around and bites them on the butt. Boo hoo.

Private companies can’t be forces to host seditious and traitorous speech that calls for attacking our country, otherwise they’d have to host terrorists and extremists like Al Qaeda, ISIS, Nazis, KKK, White Supremacists, Boogaloo Bois, Proud Boys, Q-=Anon, and several members of the GQP. They decided to draw the line rather than risk being charged as accomplices.

The big tech companies about which some on the right-wing complain are pipelines for information. If they allow contamination from false information, they have a right to deal with it. Seditious information must be purged, in their view, because if it accumulates it will cause their service to be distrusted and boycotted. And why should those companies be party to their own destruction if the seditionists are successful in turning society to embrace fascistic methods of control? First off, would be increased government control of big tech companies, to their ultimate destruction — or worse, unprofitability. Often, practicality fortuitously takes on the robe of altruism.

Mr. Varvel, when I voted for Reagan, I was considered a conservative: lower taxes, smaller government, trying to get ketchup declared a serving of vegetables in school lunches… you know, totally sane stuff…

Lying, repeated lying, denying school shootings, insisting on election fraud in front of a microphone but not in your court filings, immature name calling, telling supremacists to “stand by”, etc… is NOT “conservative speech”.

Oh and btw, the use of “Big (fill in industry)” was used by liberals back then as a put down against conservatives who were for market forces…

Gee Big Tech is a business and exists to show a profit. Like Faux News, if there are no customers they will close the doors. If they do not behave responsibly they can be sanctioned. Just because Twitter kicks you off that doesn’t mean you are silenced, you just don’t have that medium to express yourself. I am not obliged to share something I know to be a lie.

Conservatives can have all the free speech they want but no one can be forced to repeat it!

How often do you see left ideas seriously presented by the mainstream media? Such as a serious discussion of Marxism? Marx is arguably the most important social commentator of the nineteenth century. That doesn’t mean he’s right about everything, but it’s always worthwhile paying attention to what he had to say. And then there’s the anarchist critique of Marx. How often do you get to hear a serious anarchist (say, Noam Chomsky) interviewed on the mainstream media? The left has been very effectively shut down in the US.

Republicans HAVE to lie.. When people are given a choice of two statements on issues that actually affect their everyday life, one that describes the Republican position and the other the Democrat’s, the Democratic position is chosen by about 80% of Democrats and Independents. No surprise there. The weird part is that just under half of Republicans also choose Democrat positions, unless they are told which position is supported by each party. Then they fall into line and choose the Republican option- 78% of the time. So, it is entirely reasonable for Republicans to lie a lot. The people running the Republican party are in that half of the Republicans who actually believe in Republican positions. They are roughly 25% of the voting public. They have no chance of ever winning a national election unless they keep as many people as possible from voting and keep the rest of them confused enough to vote against their own best interests.

Oh, wait, right, only private industry that discriminates against the right people, not private industry that actually values intelligence and competence and doesn’t care what colour someone’s skin is or what dangly bits they do or don’t have. Private industry that doesn’t put up with your bullshit, in other words.

Last time I checked, Gary, you could still watch Fox News or Newsmax (which I don’t) or read a conservative paper (like The New York Post or the Washington Examiner, which I read on occasion). Facebook and Twitter are private sector companies who are within their right to ban posters who they consider inflammatory. Ditto for Google and Apple, who deleted Parler from Google Play and the AppStore, respectively. And you can still, if you want, watch or listen to, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, etc.

As long as some registered members of the Republican(?) Party continues to propose lies, untruths, and threats to the life and liberty of duly elected Democratic Congresspersons then their ability to spread such hate and insurrection has to be limited to preserve the United States of America. The First Amendment protects free speech, it does not protect insurrection speech, lies about “stolen” elections, or language that incites citizens to threaten, attack, or kill other citizens they do not agree with. The Republican “leadership” that allows certain members to flaunt existing laws and rules of Congress is the final example of FAILURE. The majority party in both houses has to exhibit leadership and take control of Congress and not allow aberrant Republicans to incite fear or anxiety in their workplace. Such behavior would result in immediate dismissal in any civilian company. Why is it accepted in the very place where the laws protecting workers from attack, fear, or anxiety were written. If Congress cannot police itself, then other measures must be taken to protect the “enemy” members as seen by Republican terrorists regardless if they were “duly” elected.
