Fifty years ago, I regularly left rolled-up sheets of paper in people’s driveways. I actually got paid for it. Is that still a thing?

Did she think she was showing too much leg so early in the day?

Remember Janis, you reach a certain age eventually when you become invisible.

The NP here has virtually disappeared. All local news is online…just like this comic. Can’t miss the comics!

In the summer I will ride my bicycle to work on a route that takes me through various rural and suburban areas. I am used to seeing people in various degrees of, shall we say, casual attire outside of their homes. One memorable instance was an attractive young woman, clad in a bath towel, her hair soaking wet, and holding a leash with a puppy on the other end. She saw me, smiled and waved and said, “When a puppy wants out, it means now.”

A year later I saw her in running clothes with a handsome young german shepherd. She said, “we finally got our schedules in sync.”

I always wondered about that. If women were so shy about the possibility of being seen like that; put something else on, send the husband, wait until they’re dressed… 8^ )

Ah so great to live in the country….Cows see but do not tell, wild life just run first look. One neighbor goes out in cowboy boots, boxer shorts, and wife beater shirt.

For all the folks in the comments so far with a “who still takes a newspaper, is that still a thing?” remark – YES, many folks still take a newspaper, and others buy them at outlets if they want to read one, but not necessarily everyday. Without question, papers are struggling, and some have lost the battle and folded, but others are making a quite successful transition to new attractive formats. Several papers that I know about across the country have recently invested in new printing equipment, and even new buildings to house the production facility. Others are following the business model of outsourcing the printing to a regional printer, who is set up to produce many papers each night within their geographical area.

There is one advantage to waiting a day to “read all about it” – once things have settled down, the written paper often has the details correct, whereas the “talking heads” on electronic media, with their drive to be “instant”, often don’t know what they are talking about when they start talking. And anyway, many folks just enjoy reading.

Don’t overdue your concern about “dead trees” – paper manufacturers are not cutting down virgin timber. They have their own forests, which they manage as a very renewable resource.

How quaint, they still get a real paper. . . . Not for much longer I’m afraid. Sooner or later news organizations are going to charge a real premium for a physical paper.

It takes 30 seconds to put on clothes. I have to walk my dog right out of bed, and I have perfected the art of quick dressing. I never, ever go outside in just my underwear or sleep wear, probably because they are the same thing, and I need pockets for dookie bags and such dog items. I however see people in all kinds of inappropriate garments because they don’t really walk their dogs. They just stand there in jammies or one used to walk down the street in see-through nighties. I am not even sure she had a dog. Mostly I watch for cars early – they are generally in a hurry to get to work and we don’t have sidewalks, but no fences either, so it can be scary.

Janis simply likes to believe that there are people hanging about waiting for a peek. It’s a self-esteem thing.

I have had female neighbors who would not be caught outside in anything less than fully dressed, hair done, and makeup on.
