Apparently Linus, you’ve forgotten the pleasures of doing something just for the fun of it!

It looks like Linus has adopted the Vince Lombardi ‘Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing"’ philosophy when it comes to snowman building!

Good point, Linus. After all, good old Charlie Brown just can’t win squat.

Charlie Brown is a better man than I, I would build a snowman with a prominent finger on display.

I know I may get blasted for this, but my up front apology is “this is the way it was 60 years ago.” I am not sure that it’s this way today.

Where and when I grew up (Brooklyn, 1950s), all the kids played in the streets. There were about 300 kids out there at any given time.

Boys tended to play “closed ended” games like: stickball, touch football and roller hockey. These games were competitive, had rules, you kept score and they had a definable end (either a time limit or number of innings or whatever). The objective was to run up the score and run out the clock.

Girls tended to play “open ended” games like: playing with dolls, playing house or school. These games we usually based on cooperation and although they involved role-playing usually had very loose, if any rules. There was no time limit and the objective was to keep playing until mom called you in. If there were any “scorekeeping” to be done, it was usually a girl trying to beat her personal best at something like how long she could continue to jump rope.

Of course there were other games which were more coed in nature.

I think life (and the Christian approach to afterlife) should be an open ended game. The objective shouldn’t be “he who dies with the most toys wins.” It should be “Keep playing until mom calls you home.”

But if you lose, no worries. Just say it was rigged, don’t concede, demand recounts until they melt.

Linus doesn’t know that the Taiwan team is all 18 and 19 year olds. They just look really young.

Linuses attitude is what’s wrong with our society. Too much competition. I do things just because I enjoy doing them.

Back then, it was still called Taiwan. IIRC, “Chinese Taipei” was a demand by the Beijing government as a condition for allowing them to compete in the Olympics, and once the change was made there, ABC applied it to the Little League World Series.

Remember the “Bad News Bears” film where they went to Japan to play a team, but the organizers got into big arguments about everything and the boys of both teams went out to an empty place across the street and played ball?

Wow, competition but then everyone wins. How much fun is that? My grandkids in California get fed this crap everyday. When they come over here in Florida to play with us, we actually have winners and losers. You should see the little brats cry. It brings joy to my heart!

I agree with Charlie Brown, Linus. you’ve sold out. Don’t bother placing your hands on the snow to make a snowman, it will have absolutely no meaning
