What Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler actual said was , “Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence? It’s you who have created the hate and the division. It’s you who have not found a way to say the names of Black people killed by police officers even as people in law enforcement have. And it’s you who claimed that White supremacists are good people. Your campaign of fear is as anti-democratic as anything you’ve done to create hate and vitriol in our beautiful country.”
Yes, it’s Trump’s fault and I am sure you know it Ramirez, by supporting Trump’s attempt to use Racism to inflame his base you are betraying your country, party and family. How do you even sleep at night ?
It’s Trump’s fault in the sense that he embodies, encourages and enables it. He isn’t interested in healing, only dividing. All he wants is some white supremacist’s version of a 1950’s America with his own version of McCarthy hearings for anything he labels a socialist (which, as far as I can tell, is anyone that disagrees with him).
Trump owns every part of this and history will label it with his name.
Who’s president right now, Ramirez? We didn’t have these problems 3 1/2 years ago. What changed? Oh yeah, the guy running against his own administration.
Remember him telling the mob at his rally to rough up the reporters and he would pay for their lawyer? Remember how his people broke the law by refusing to honor subpoenas to appear before Congress? Remember when he said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and his supporters wouldn’t care? Remember when he said to use 2nd Amendment solutions for Hillary Clinton? Remember when he said “I don’t kid” Remember how he has pardoned his staff when they break the law? Yes, he has encouraged lawlessness and violence. Then he has the nerve to say he is for law and order.
If there’s any lesson from history repeating itself that is absolutely guaranteed, it is that repression breeds violence. Support repression, support violence.
One side is protesting systemic racial discrimination, economic injustice, and violence to minorities which has been endemic since before this nation was formed. Anger boils up when, even in the 21st century, these issues continue to fester.
Racism has infected this country for decades, 400 years. We finally have a true red rabid racist psychopath in the most powerful office. Kaboom! All the ills of this country have blown wide open. Either the decent citizens vote him and his death cult out or the country becomes a place no one with a soul wishes to inhabit.
Last night our PBS station ran a Rick Steves documentary on Benito Mussolini. The parallels between Mussolini/Hitler and Trump are truly frightening as Dump leads his true believers to trust him about anything. DUMP TRUMP! ELECT BIDEN/HARRIS!
No, Trump is merely taking advantage of general unrest to stoke the fires of divisiveness for political gain. You don’t think he’s going to show up in Kenosha with the “jaws of life”, do you really?
We will receive THOUSANDS of comments trying to explain away the riots and looting as “peaceful protests” and the burning and looting and killing as “all Trump’s fault”. Oh well!
Not all the Mango Mistake’s fault: He’s built his campaign of divisiveness and hate on a foundation of people who were ready to hear it. But he’s certainly amplified and to some extent normalized it.
PS: NYT article today pointing out that if the US had responded to the pandemic as well as the average of all nations, about 145,000 people would still be alive who died because of this administration’s incompetence and fact-averse response.
From their daily email: «If the United States had done merely an average job of fighting the coronavirus — if the U.S. accounted for the same share of virus deaths as it did global population — how many fewer Americans would have died?
The answer: about 145,000.
That’s a large majority of the country’s 183,000 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths. No other country looks as bad by this measure. The U.S. accounts for 4 percent of the world’s population, and for 22 percent of confirmed Covid-19 deaths. It is one of the many signs that the Trump administration has done a poorer job of controlling the virus than dozens of other governments around the world.»
Hits it right on the button. Portland’s leaders let the situation get out of hand then blamed it on anyone else they could. Now Oregon’s gov. wants to send in deputies from other towns to help, and they are refusing to go into that mess. In the old days my daddy would have said that the folks in Portland crapped and fell back in it.
One theory that I seem to be hearing more and more often is that nut-case right-wingers are the ones doing all the vandalism and destruction of property, just to make the protesters look bad…
Trump is deliberatly stoking anger in order to run a law and order campaign. Such a campaign distracts people from his failings and vices. The protesters have stupidly taken the bait. We’ve seen this movie before: Nixon in ’68, Hitler in 1933.
A “leader” who never takes responsibility … yet always seeks to take the credit … especially for things he didn’t do. Thats what a conman does. Think about it… the whole republican platform now is “Look at how bad the country is” This is not something an incumbent should be running on.

I think Senator Lindsey Graham (R-Hell), er, I mean, (R-SC), said it best “Donald Trump is a race-baiting, xenophobic religious bigot”

Think about it. This crap has been going, on and off, since Ferguson.
Hundreds of millions, perhaps even into the billion, in damage. Injuries. Deaths. Businesses destroyed.
Perpetrated by hordes of people who say “Look what you made me do.”
