My mother taught me that one should wear their age like a badge of honor, because every year you have is a year you’ve earned. I’ve lived by that philosophy ever since.
My newspaper, on Sundays, carries the Sunday N. Y. Times crossword (a week later than it appears in the N.Y.T.), I have it in front me to solve as I read these comics. The theme, by an amazing coincidence, is “What Goes Up, Must Come Down”.
When I was young, I thought 25 would be the perfect stopping point; had so much fun on my 26th b-day that I decided I would stop counting when I found a year I didn’t enjoy. Assuming Covid-19 doesn’t take me out, will be 72 in September. :-)
I know that riddle all too well, but Garfield either didn’t know the actual answer to that riddle or he just deliberately gave a wrong answer as a form of denial.
there is an alternative to getting older, on the whole though I much prefer the getting older since the alternative isn’t remaining young (and I suspect this morning’s headline promising a fountain of youth will remain as exclusive as it always has)
