When Heavyweights (Garfields) Collide
by The GoComics TeamToday marks 40 years for Garfield as an oversized cartoon cat and all-around superstar. Back in 2003, Garfield met the original, 1978 version of himself in a week-long celebration of the strip's 25th anniversary.
The art style of creator Jim Davis has evolved so much over time that the two Garfields are presented as separate characters, akin to multiversal duplicates co-existing in a single pocket of overlapping spacetime. It's cute, funny, and may or may not be canonical so much as celebratory!
