The town’s taxpayers… and the school janitor’s family… aren’t going to be too happy about this.

Let’s just say Stupendous Man actually destroyed the school. Then his mild-mannered ego Calvin will have to be transferred to another school. Then Stupendous Man will have to destroy THAT school and Calvin transferred to yet another school, and cycle repeats.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school…

He’s really going to be disappointed when he finds out that the Zorg rebuilt the school in time for first period.

It is all stuffed tigers, capes, cardboard boxes, and cartoon physics.

Stupendous man needs to still go to school as there a things he does not know; the 200 inch Hale telescope at Palomar is a reflecting telescope. It does not have a lens, it has a MIRROR.

I would’ve fried all the students so it would just be me at school. But I guess that’s just me.

If only it were that easy.

Now, if we could just redirect his energy (hah!) to a better target…

Somehow this does not seem so funny in today’s world. What a pity the world has changed so much

Wouldn’t be surprised to find Stupendous Man hit the wrong target (that’s just my guess, not a spoiler).

I think he is confusing “liberty” with “license” … sorta like the current resident.

What no one seems to notice, despite his using a “refracting” lens from a “reflecting” telescope (yes, I know – everyone has commented on THAT), but what did Stupendous Man DO with that giant, non-existent lens? Something like that would be one dangerous item to come back to Earth on re-entry… ;-)

So Calvin is willing to kill innocent people in order to get out of doing homework?

In answer to Mom’s question “so-so”

There aren’t any refracting telescopes with 200-inch lenses. There is, however, a reflecting telescope with 200-inch mirror.

Perhaps the Second Amendment does not cover giant lenses.

Terrible solar energy?

I thought that Stupendous Man might be up to some mischief.

Look at the bright side… at least this proves Calvin was paying close attention in Science class. ;-)

I have an answer for that, but will refrain from blathering about it because THIS IS A COMIC!

A tornado, last year, trashed two schools in my town. The kids were moved to other schools in under a week. Hurricane Dorien overwashed one of the islands on the NC Outer Banks and damaged every school. It took almost a month, but the kids are happily back in school. The Calvins and Mother Natures of the world are an annoyance, but they don’t win in most cases.

Uh oh, mom hasn’t heard the news, think fast Stupidous, er, I mean Stupendous…

Of course, a certain caped superhero in blue tights simply reversed the world’s spin and turned time back. But then, in Stupendous Man’s eyes, he did that to save some dumb ol’ girl…

Heh, Stupendous Man seems more like a superVILLAIN than a superhero!

at that age I loved school loved reading…i’d read the textbooks through first month of school… well, not the math books so much

Calvin calls Stupendous Man a “friend of freedom”. The only freedom Calvin yearns for is freedom from reality, something many many people want, very much to their detriment.

Maybe the government should pass a lens control law!

Seems to me, if Stupendous Man has the superpowers to pull off that little stunt, he hardly needs the Sun’s energy just to wipe out one elementary school.

That isn’t exactly an altruistic motive for Stupendous Man….

Burning down a school seems to far fetched. It’s better that this six year old reads the 3 pages.

Oh, how Watterson erred in this strip! The 200-inch telescope on Mt. Palomar was built around a mirror not a lens. The world’s largest refractor, the ones with a lens, is the 40-inch telescope at Yerkes Observatory.
