That baggage only comes if you believe God is a white male.

As well, all Western versions of a god, incarnate or carnate, came out of an Iron Age Middle East.

There are other religions on the planet that concern themselves mainly with the mundane details of getting through the day. Confucius, remember, was a civil servant.

One thing I would like to do : ask to all the Catholic priests up to Pope Francesco (living in Italy this could be not easy but possible) :

“Do you really believe in god and in all the words you say ?”

    Could be surprising .

God is God. It is Man who puts God in a box so that they can control the masses according to what they say God is.

God is a grumpy old man in the sky who advocates hate and persecution. He is also a serial killer of vast proportions, even kids. Let’s all worship HIM!

God hasn’t been paying close enough attention to this corner of creation. She’ll be doing some cleanup and repair work just any old time now.

Shouldn’t that be “invoke”? Not like Gary to make a grammatical error…

    Not ANOTHER flood!

We don’t need God for that, we’re doing it very well to ourselves.

The church can be a power engine for social change and good. Trouble comes when it is used for personal gain and not for everyone benefit. Greed destroys.

BAD GRAMMAR ALERT! One does not “evoke” God’s name. One “invokes” it. An amazing grammatical error by Garry! It’s a wonder his wife (the famous newscaster wife didn’t catch this glaring error. Of course, what do you expect from a guy who misspells the name “Gary”? Seriously, though — I’m surprised that nobody else out there caught the error in grammar…..

Most religions originated when we were barely out of the caves. The only value that a person could have that made him superior to others was strength. Woman, lacking that value, were second class citizens. Even a male child was superior, because he had the potential to be strong enough to deal with the very hostile environment. Consequently, religions confer superior status on the male— there were Goddesses, but they were only there to produce more Gods and create havoc for them. No religious dogma seems valid to me. I think the guy who came the closest to understanding the real God was George Lucas— may the force be with all of us.

I remember my 8th-grade Spanish teacher telling the class a joke on that subject. The punchline was, “Well, she was colored.” I doubt she’d get away with telling it these days.

Remember, these strips are RERUNS. Only Sundays are newly published. But, it is nice to be so topical after so many years. A #MeToo punchline from decades before there was ever such a movement. Visionary and hip to it, if not grammatically correct (to all you trolls).
