Hmmmm so romance may be still the issue? I still think they both have a lot to learn from each other, but being friends will have to be it. She can be good, and not a girlfriend but can he recognize that. I will put my muse about being related aside for a time. Anything is possible with this strip.

    Prudence’s List of Interrogation Techniques:

    1. In order to get the criminal to confess, first start off by giving him a compliment. Say something he desperately wants to hear, like, “I can read people and I think you’re a good guy.”

2.Once the criminal is relaxed, then open slowly with a slight, but generic accusation like, “I think you’re lying.” You are not actually accusing him of something specific and it may make him think that you don’t have anything on him.

3.Once the criminal has accepted the generic accusation, move into specifics like, “On the night of May 23, 2017, you did tell Mrs. Berger I’m your girlfriend. Didn’t you?”

4.It helps at this point, if you can turn off all the lights and appear in silhouette as if you are a grown woman and he is but a little boy with tiny baby arms and a tiny head. This technique almost always results in a confession.

5.Once you have the confession, then you can ask leading questions to see if you get him to give more details, especially by suggesting that the criminal has a loose grasp on reality. An example question would be, “By making it up?”

If Pru learned how to read people and thinks he’s a good guy, it sounds like the interpreter software in her reader is missing the plug ins for reading Les.

Hmmm, this arc may actually continue on next week. I’m not getting the feeling I usually do when they’re about to drop one storyline and shift to another. Hopefully Pru will eventually get around to telling Les that she’s gay. As it is, she’s really burying the lede.

I know that all of us on the outside looking in on her waiting to see how Pru will handle “the big reveal,” but I think it’s telling that she is more interested in discussing the question of Les’s honesty, and she’s willing to address it head-on. Maybe she can be the friend he needs to help set him straight, even if she can’t be the girlfriend he wants. Now to see how Les reacts…

Pru should just tell Les she is not interested. There is no reason for her to have to reveal her sexual preference.

The version of ‘Luann’ on ArcaMax today is in Spanish. I thought when that happened here, it was because of a mistake, since ‘Luann’ is also published in Spanish on GoComics. But I’ve never seen Spanish language ‘toons on ArcMax, so I can’t understand how that happened there…

I wonder why Les would think that he could make something good happen in his life (in this instance, a girlfriend become part of his life) by telling someone else it was so, and not by asking the lady in question if she wanted a closer relationship?

Does Pru think that Les is “good” because he donated to the theater kids, gave her a gift, and paid for an expensive dinner? If so, she’s not that good a read of people.

Pru’s telling him that she thinks he’s a “good guy” may be based less on her objective sentiments about him than on her trying to be “parental” with him and maybe steer him in a better direction by not being too caustic. However, he’s so insecure and narcissistic that her kindness may not help him. — In any event, she should tell him that she’s returning the necklace the next day, or he’ll feel that she has some kind of obligation to him.

I had to snicker at the thought that Pru believes she is good at reading people. Luann thought Quill was interested in Pru and was jealous. Les gives her an expensive necklace and takes her to a fancy restaurant and she doesn’t pick up on anything? Plus she believes Les is a good guy? Since when?

What is the age difference between Pru and Les?

Pru makes valid points on not wanting to a relationship based on lies. She hasn’t had the right opportunity to explain her sexual orientation. The relationship is made up in Les’ head. Let’s see what happens.

Pru doesn’t have to talk about her orientation at all. She doesn’t owe anyone an explanation. All she has to do is say “I am not interested in a romantic relationship with you”. She doesn’t need to fix Les either. Her question “by making it up?” opens the door for explanations followed by suggestions and rationalizations etc.

Guys have always been turned down by girls, and that’s probably a good thing. Now, it would be a lot more uncomfortable if Pru hit on another girl like Luann or Bernice and got turned down. That kind of defeat and exposure can really wreck any future relationship between them. I’ve seen it happen.

I know a lot of you want to see Les crash and burn. Yeah I know, we all remember guys like Les from school. We hated their guts and would have paid money to see them get what we thought they deserved. Some of those fantasies were quite violent and out of line but then again we were just kids.

Whether you want to admit it or not, some of us still carry grudges and are living vicariously through this strip just to see our old enemies finally get what’s coming to them. I’m 60 and still remember a jerk from middle school who’s block I’d like to knock off. Let it go. Just let it go.

Yes Les absolutely needs to face the music for his crimes but enjoying seeing someone’s heart get broken is just plain cruel I don’t care who that person is. I believe Les is really smitten with Pru but just doesn’t know how to deal with it. He has probably used people all his life and doesn’t know what to do with real feelings. A true blue full blown sociopath has no romantic or affectionate feelings for anyone. I think Greg and Karen will give him a change of heart and a chance to grow. Have faith.

I think Les’ last line will elicit sympathy from Pru. Maybe she should tell Les she’s a Lesbian – and then invite him to dinner – to show Les what an actual friend is like. As far as we know – Les has never had one.

I think Pru’s statement today SHOULD be: “Les, I think you CAN be a good guy -”

    .

Given his past (and near present), Les desperately yearns for “something good” in his life and believes he’s “headed for success” … totally understandable. He’s just going about it all wrong. The old ways won’t work, boy!

Les does quite a bit of lying and fooling himself… but he can’t lie to the person he cares for. To have someone he truly likes tell it to him like it is will be the best that can happen.

The Evanses seem to have a long range goal of rehabilitating some of the problematic characters. Pru aims to see into his heart, despite not having one whit of romantic interest. There really are walking angels like that, if rarer than diamonds. This is my favorite arc in months.

I almost feel sorry for les, almost. Fact is he created his own bad karma. Pru is a good person and tried to see the best in him. But she needs to come clean now and just tell him she is gay. She needs to let him know that as long as he is honest he can still be her friend but that is it.
