A moment of self-realization — there might be hope for Pig after all.

At least if you talk with the dead one, you feel smarter.

This is a rerun from years ago. Did Stephan have something really dirty planned for today and chicken out, or is he running out of ideas?:If the former, I’d like to see the strip that was supposed to be here today.

I thought this strip looked familiar. After getting my magnifying glass out I see it’s from 2002. Stephan must be on vacation again.

Heard this joke before.

Seems as though Pig’s drawing style from two days ago is about on par with Pastis’ style from 2002. Maybe Pig was actually doing the strip back then.

Today’s strip was drawn by Billy, so Bil can take the day off. Wait, that’s a different comic….

Seeing this makes me realize how much I miss old Pearls, before it became about wordplay and self-deprecation.

Classic, I see this one a lot on so-shul media.

Stephan might be simply on a vacation, looking up dusty and forgotten puns in a remote library in Groanistan. When that happens, quite often reruns are called in. Nothing unusual there.

I do think you’re really stupid, Pig.But in a remarkably profound way!Pig is profoundly stupid….

Actually, this appeared sometime in the very first month of Pearls Before Swine….and it’s still one of my favorite strips ever.

Not unlikely that someone has seen the joke before..In the last 14 years, it’s been on a zillion mugs and calendars.

As for Stephan running re-runs during vacations….he works farther ahead than almost any other cartoonist…(except for the rare times he gets special permission to run a topical strip, which takes about 10 days to get into print.)

He has said that he generally has six months to a year’s work of strips ready to go…so he has no need to “fill in” with old strips.

So yeah, I’m thinking maybe today’s intended strip was controversial…or maybe he just intended to run an old favorite.

Turnback Wednesday?

Yep, considering that he works a year ahead, today’s strip must have been pulled for some reason…

Looks like Pig and Rat put on weight over the years since this one is from2002 :-)

PBS and I are almost the same age

This is one of the very first strips. Since it ran on Wednesday and not Monday, I’m guessing it’s to fill in for a censored strip. Or maybe he starts his vacations on Wednesdays. Tomorrow will tell.

Made me laugh out loud.

I thought this was a rerun. It’s a little discouraging how many of us remember a strip from 2002. We need lives.

A brave answer. Conversation with the living is more challenging, not to mention you can risk a higher blood pressure.

Pastis must be on vacation.

That reminds me of the story of the immigrant at Ellis Island being asked by the customs official, “Do you favor the overthrow of the government of the United States by violence or subversion?” “Violence!” said the immigrant.

Looking at these comments, the theories are that (a) he’s on vacation, (b) a strip got censored, and this one was put in its place. Ten times each.

Don’t you people read the comments that are up there already!?!?

For the record, Pastis’ Twitter page is here, with the pulled strip. It’s a little questionable, given recent events, though not terrible, in my opinion.

Wow. Stephen Pastis is rerunning his comics, even after publishing a big Sunday strip a few years ago about why he didn’t.

Yes. Unfortunately, it cannot be seen on Facebook, where any mention of the strip or of Facebook censorship in regard to it is blocked by the fascist censors at Facebook….

I sure don’t know who censored that or why. Steph’s had Rat and Pig being arrested before and there was no problem. If they’re going to start censoring the strip for bad puns it will be the end of Pearls.
