Is this the long-awaited return of the kids? Or is the first hint that Arlo and Janis will move closer to the kids?

He’s going to drive hundreds of miles pulling a “small utility trailer” filled with old containers ans a small load of compost and dirt; and then have to make the same trip back to return the trailer???

Trailer rental is too cheap to bother with a trip to return a borrowed one.

Arlo’s always been go at metaphorically shoveling it. I hope he can do as well for real.

If Arlo spins this right he won’t have to do any of the work. Present it to the kids as an idea for an early Mother’s Day present: the kids fill the pots with mulch/compost/dirt and then bring along when they make a surprise weekend visit. Janis gets the containers with the prep work done and they get to see the kids, sounds like a perfect present.

when we bought our place we had and 80 × 80′ garden planted with all kinds of stuff, after a few years on our clock, we have 7 fruit trees and a lumpy lawn. Its getting one more till to get rid of potato mounds and get leveled. Our rhubarb wont grow and the horseradish wont die.

I read this as Arlo’s passive/aggressive taunt to put an end to her garden plans. He just scared the bejesus out of her with thoughts of all the work ahead with that plan.

Arlo, Arlo, Arlo. A nice garden chair. A cool drink. A good book. Anything but the pathway to yard work.

Does anyone know where Arlo and Janis live, where Gene and family live, and how far apart those two places are? Sometimes it seems like A and J live in Seattle and G lives in Tampa. Other times it seems like they live a block from each other.
