/// Shown here fingerin’ fine Irish linen,

William Brownlow’s kin were the beginnin’

    of that industry which is

what had brought him his riches,

and a Parliament seat he’d long been in.

An interesting essay about Stuart at artvee dot com. I’m afraid you’ll have to browse there and use the search function at the site, but if you do, the search term “Brownlow” gets me right to it. Among other tidbits: the guy messed up financially so bad that when he died, his family couldn’t afford to buy him a grave in consecrated ground. Ten years later, when they had the money, they couldn’t remember where they’d put him. Ah, the love of a good family….

Brownlow always referred to Stuart as ‘that bloody illiterate Yank’ for leaving out the ‘u’ in the title.

Portrait of the Right Honorable William Brownlow

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Politicians of Northern Ireland" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found (using DuckDuckGo currently needs a second click to get there from its first found) and once there find the text string Brownlow, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting, plus the auction house’s Description

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3307 (April 19, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing the blog entry with my comment pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 3 works by him have been used here, the September 18, 2023, strip being the prior.

This fellow certainly resembles Horatio Gates the Revolutionaty War General, who won the Battle of Saratoga in 1777:

Having led troops into battle, Horatio Gates

    Fought in our Country’s Revolution

And won at Saratoga in ‘Seventy-seven.

    Sans Congressional debates

He got a medal that so commemorates

Anglo-Irish Politician. Brownlow served as High Sheriff of Armagh for 1750 and was first elected to the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for County Armagh in 1753, styled The Right Honourable and holding the seat until his death
