Amazing artwork. What a depiction of her essentially being erased!
I’m assuming that Tom is a loved one. During the Unity story cycle when Jim died, his last lucid thought was of Sarah, the woman he loved. (Who turned out to be a cruel piece of work, but that was part of the story.)
Much as I detest Mavis, this bothered me, even though I knew it was coming. Hope that the process was over fast. And that the info gained serves a good purpose.
A few commenters have suggested that something about Portia seems false. I’m beginning to feel that way too. And what about the Pig who was at Jacobs victory toast? Is a Pig actually part of this—and is there a connection with Portia? The Pig is in the third panel here: https://www.gocomics.com/endtown/2013/7/16
The last panel, I heard that in my head as the same sound as when Neo was first sucked out of The Matrix by that mirror stuff, the “VANG” dissolving into a electrical modulation as her brain contents are sorted, stacked, and collated.
… this leaves me to think that there is no hope left for Endtown. No humanity. Sure she got what she deserved. And what was done probably needed to be done, but when there is no deference between the good guys and the bad guys…
She had a chance to talk her way out of it. She chose to gloat. Maybe she thought, as I did, that Jacob was bluffing and the big mean gadget was something else, or maybe she thought Jacob would somehow be talked into agreeing with her… but she made her choice.
It’s an ex-judicial execution, but given that this is a perpetual-emergency situation I’m not shocked. And unlike most of our executions, it actually has the potential to do some good (by allowing them to take out the rest of the ring cleanly and perhaps with less death).
I can understand it, and in fact agree with it, without liking it. As the insectoid mutants would not say, it’s probably the lesser of two weevils.

So will we go back into her memory and see what happened? And meet Tom?

Is Tom the cat who was praising her (before) and condemning her (after) in the Endtown Examiner offices?

Given what she’s done, what she’s a part of, I truly hope it hurt.

I’m a bit like the Foxworthy episode – they actually did it!

We could try to debug your application. But it is easier to just reformat the drive and reinstall the operating system.

As usual, I just love the artwork! Aaron can tell a story with few, if any words.

First spiff, and now VANG! Endtown has such cool sounds for a story with no soundtrack… ;-)

Don’t try this at home, kids. It’s not as much fun as it looks. Stick to your Tide Pods, and leave the draining to the professionals.

Well, she stopped laughing. I guess Mavis had no ace up her sleeve or a co-conspirator to sneak her out.

I wonder if we will actually see the conspiracy unfold in a flashback I really enjoy those.

Wow, that is SO disturbing…

“Tom..(urk! Vaaang)” as in “Tomorrow the World” or “Tomorrow will be ours” perhaps?

Didn’t she have a husband named Tom, who had been a police officer (deceased)?

I’m absolutely certain I saw Columbo do this in one episode, when he couldn’t find enough clues.

The dissolve into pixelation is a very well done effect here. Pretty damned horrifying.

This would seem to be the Endtown equivalent of “dusting”. Instant non-existence. Mallard needs to work on a more portable version… ;-)
