    A scratching post? Says who?

    I wouldn’t trust it!

IT’S A TRAP! An adorable, smiley faced trap. Or, it’s just a happy scratching post. Either way, it’s a nice blast from the past.

Rerun week! Can’t (and shouldn’t) draw comics while everyone is down sick with norovirus. Glad Georgia took the time to get herself and the kids better.

Now, the question is, will we get this whole week of this story, or is the BCN Wayback Machine on “shuffle”?

It’s a cool scratch post. I’ve seen cat trees shaped like the Enterprise, and coveted them intensely.

Norovirus is awful. Hubby and I had it when at a convention. We were NOT happy. Get well, Georgia and kids!

Thank you everyone for understanding and enjoying a week of classic strips! The kids and I are all thankfully now recovered from norovirus, but WOW, that was not fun, whew! I’ll take the flu any day over that, it was thoroughly not a good time!

My wife used to work in a retirement home, and two or three times a year they would get Norovirus outbreaks (until Covid hit, when visitors were banned and they had three years without a single case). It’s really nasty, but easily prevented: hand washing, hand sterilization – all the sensible measures. I washed all her work clothes separately, and also used Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Sanitiser on them – and in the 15+ years she worked for them, neither of us ever caught it. Teach your kids to wash hands properly after every “visit” while it’s still fresh in their minds – they probably picked it up at school because children are generally dirty little disease factories …

I bought this cactus scratching post for my two cats. So far, they are not impressed. They like the old carpet covered post which they have totally destroyed.

I still think teaching cats to feat cacti was the better play, but who’s to argue with that whimsical smile.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: That was a lovely auction. The Happy Healthy Hospital board is very pleased.

Lupinium: Isn’t Elvis on the board?

Queen Cat: Yes. But we’ll never tell anyone he’s pleased.

Beatrixia: I really enjoy my sea harp. I can play a lot of complex chords thanks to my paws.

Lupinium: Maybe we can do a tumbling routine sometime.

Bea: Sure. I just need to get a bit more proficient.

Puckmosis: Incidentally, who donated the satin cactus?

Queen Cat: It was an anonymous donation.

Puck It does seem a bit unusual, seeing that there are no cacti in the Sahara.

Bea: It had to be someone well traveled, with many connections, and never tell.

Puck: No idea who that could be.

My daughter and I made a scratching post that I thought was clever. A silhouette of a black cat cut out of black carpet over the opening. The cats wouldn’t use it.. until a friend who had 4 rowdy boys visited. As soon as they left I let the cats know and they immediately came out of hiding.

A true classic and it’s understandable. I don’t mind reprints as it’s better than the days when cartoonists were expected to just.. keep going anyway> Which was messed up.

This is striking home for me. My new cat, Gabriela (a/k/a Fluff-For-Brains, or just Fluff for short) seems dedicated to scratching everything EXCEPT the multiple scratching posts and cones set out for that purpose. It’s uncanny.
