It took me 47 years to learn the “Cat next door” had a name. To be fair, when my family moved all those years ago we switched from daily (I used to read the comics with my breakfast before school, now I’m reading them online with my tea before school) to Sunday delivery of the paper, so I would have missed this revelation anyway.
Someone once said, there are no winners or losers in a war, just survivors. Perhaps this strip is a parody on that concept. Its interesting that the cat is called WWII. In that war, the US was the clear winner, having survived without being attacked on its mainland. But, at what cost? Our graves the world over mark our cost. War is a very bad thing. Much to be avoided.

They don’t look too bad, hair and fur still there, clothes mostly intact, ,made it off pretty well.

You never win against a cat!

I think Peppermint Patty lost. She lost her open toed sandals! Which is a rare moment since P.P. is rarely seen without wearing her sandals!

They definitely lost. Good job, World War II!
…That feels weird to say.

I’d say it was a hollow victory.

I think I’ll name my next cat “World War II”… that won’t be for a long while though. ;-)

Nobody wins a war. One side just manages to lose it to a lesser extent.

Yeek, they look roughed up!

Snoopy and Peppermint Patty are lucky. During and after World War II far too many men and women did NOT come home.

PP is still the competitor, the way I see it, WWII ….. 1, PP & Snoopy 0

It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s whether you can walk away under your own power.
eddi-TBH 8 months ago
Now she’s too beat up to beat on Snoopy.
ajakimber425 8 months ago
Yes and no! You won the fight, but the cat next door is also a sore loser.

A true Pyrrhic victory.
