Looks like it’s a 2 week arc.

I hope Vale will get his comeuppance !

Luann and Tiffany must ahop at the same store since both have been wearing the same button style of dress and blouse.

Ooo, a trip thru the archives. This might be fun.

A nice segue that gets us away from the Vale arc and into a more interesting view into Luann and her past diary postings.

The diary ought to lead to something new, although we used to see her recording her diary in that self-same recorder.

I hope Luann took the batteries out of that tape recorder, as probably hasn’t been used in years.

Did Luann spend so much time without cleaning? I hope the cassette tape where she recorded her diary is not dirty.

If Luann is cleaning her room she must have a special guy coming.

Our Luann is growing up! She’s cleaning without being asked!

“Yeah, I’m as shocked as you are.”

I was surprised too, Bernice.

I think Vale is done, and gone for good as he should be. He was an oafish, unappealing guest in Luann’s recurring tutoring gig, like a rest stop along a freeway. Not recyclable, one time use, do not litter, toss him in the basket and move on.

Bern can write upside down rather well.

Betcha Frank and Nancy made her clean her room on threat of eviction.

But now, we get to learn her innermost secrets (heh, heh, heh)!!

Now, Luann has found her cassette recorder so she can record her tutoring sessions. That way, she can listen to them and possibly do better than Vale.

“I can plagiarize my own stuff!”

After imagining Van Gogh’s diary, Luann wants to remember her own diary. I was writing a diary, rereading it is one of the most boring/sad things for me. But maybe it will be different for Luann. Maybe this will push her to change her life, to start writing a novel, to have a dream to fulfill♡!

Wow she was cleaning her room

This looks to be a classic strip from the old days. BFFs Luann and Bernice together in the DeGroot household. Bernice initiating a conversation and Bernice making a wisecrack.

Given the content of the tape recorder this might wind up being an interesting sequence. In the dim past Luann recorded some of her secret desires and concerns on that tape recorder. Especially about Aaron Hill, Gunther Burger and Tiffany Farrell.

Now THAT’S funny!!

“Cleaning my room”….. I think I’m going to have a heart attack…

Uh-oh. I’m worried this could be the end of the comic strip – she may go into a flashback loop starting from the beginning and then it will be reruns for eternity.

I’m as shocked as Bernice!

Bernice’s Muse phase seems to have dissipated rather quickly.

I’ll bet Luann will get in trouble for giving Vale too much help in writing his diary.

I’ve always wanted a tape recorder.

For how many decades was Luann actually supposed to have been teen?

And why does a cassette deck look as flat as a tablet?

D’oh! I didn’t make the connection until now between Luann’s old-style recorder and last week’s cheating student’s cell.

It does happen OCCASIONALLY Bernice.

A sharp turn to…………….???

Cassette tapes held 60/90 minutes-30/45 minutes on each side so if she did not record over older tapes and used the recorder for “years” she should also have a box of 50+ tapes. Also to be of any use she would have had to record the date of the entry and the tape counter number to be able to listen to that date’s entry. Antique?? If she is still 20 she likely was using it only a few years ago.

I fear a “retro” story line coming on.

I still have a cassette recorder that looks just like that. Haven’t used it in decades.

That Leann was actually cleaning her room is the biggest shock. Wonder how many years that cassette player was missing. If more than a year, I would say that it is likely that the batteries leaked, making it unusable

Looks like the veil closed on Vale. If Vale was recording on a tape recorder rather than his phone, I could see the connection with this, but not. I really hoped there was a point to that arc. :-/

I actually laughed at today’s strip. Bernice is not being snarky. She really is surprised that Luann cleaned her room.

Had one for 30 years. Tried to use it recently, but the belts had corroded and it was useless.

I remember the Reel-to-Reel tape deck. If Luann had that, it would be an antique, a nice one for that matter!

Oh look at that: surprising absolutely nobody (nobody with any knowledge of how the character and strip operate, that is), Bernice abandoned her muse makeover and has reset to factory settings once again, having experienced no lasting growth or change.

I am surprised that “Luann” is starring again in the comic-strip named after her, for a 2nd consecutive week!

At this point it is her word against his. He can always say she gave him the answers freely. She can argue the point but she risks getting in trouble herself. If she does eventually catch on to what he did perhaps she can shame him into coming clean about the assignment. But I doubt it! Vale is pretty sneaky.

So, play the tape. Luann probably says something in her diary that irritates Bern so much the friendship ends. Momentarily.

I remember a few strips of Luann recording her diary that way. Don’t think they used that plot device in decades her. Also, I remember tape recorders like that. Will it even work?

I have one of those. Several, in fact. The one from radio Shack which looked nice broke. The others from KMart still worked last time I checked.

Maybe she will record herself as a Tutor and discover what is going on.

I see Bern’s already back to dressing like normal. Did Nil confront her about it behind the scenes while we were treated to a week of Luann’s tutoring sesh?

Bernie’s reaction may have been slow in coming, but (panel 2) it is the appropriate reaction!

Keep up Bernice, keep up

I’m wondering if the combination of thinking about a diary and having a recorder will “click” in Luann’s mind. I won’t even try to predict yea or nay. As far as Bernice and Nil, I’m under the impression that they are no longer a couple? They were breaking up when Nil mentioned the Muse and Bernice went wacko. Perhaps I’m wrong…I guess time (or people with better mories) will tell!
