There’s no original art and dialogue to show this time. This is adapted from Clarence H. White’s 1905 photo The Orchid. And, yes, this is almost certainly the oldest piece of public domain art I’ve ever used.
This reminds me of an article from Mad magazine — which puts you in very good company, John! The title was something like, “If Great Artists Drew the Comics.” The example I recall featured Millet’s 1857 painting, The Gleaners, which “depicts three peasant women gleaning a field of stray stalks of wheat after the harvest.” (credit: Wikipedia) Mad’s lead-up panels to the painting have the woman announcing that they’re waiting for their sky-diving boyfriends. In the final image, speech balloons from the women bent over in the field tell us that they’re picking up the remnants of their respective guys — and arguing over whether a piece they’ve found belongs to one guy or another.
Sadly, they’re all going to be banned soon here in the Christian Dominionist America. Colorado showed that when you offer IUDs to teens at no cost, teen pregnancies dropped in the state by a ton. It was the first thing the Republicans ended when they took control a few years ago.
