Every time Bolling draws a cartoon in this Louis series, I wish he’d demo more understanding. The kid’s probably got ADD (the AD side of AD/HD): spaced out, living in his head, slow to pull it together, quick to have it slip from his grip again. Getting stick from everyone because they think he just needs to “concentrate for a change". Not much fun.
I knew a lot of bright, smart kids who were like this. Because they were so bored to tears over rote learning that they simply tuned out to school but found interest and even hope in things like comic books and the like. Of course the schools, board of education (which should have been called “the school bored”), and parents who didn’t know/couldn’t care about why these bright kids were “underperforming”, and still worse chose to call them “underachieving” in their “infinite wisdom” of course simply chose to blame comicbooks instead of coming up with challenging and interesting set of lesson plans.
Seems it was just too much work to teach smart, even brilliant people and so the parents, most teachers, and almost all of the school systems figured that “underachieving” was indeed their best solution as well and then forced “teaching to the tests” upon all students as their one and only way to go.
Just look where that brilliant idea got us.
Can you say “covfefe” and “hamberders”? And can you say “I love the poorly educated” too? How about saying, “Betsy DeVos” perhaps?
A lot of science fiction from the ‘50s and before was about adolescent wish fulfillment. E. g. “Slan.” More recent examples still crop up. Consider "Ender’s Game" and “Dune.”
I thought for sure that the last comic of 2021 would feature “Lucky Ducky” contracting COVID and receiving a $350,000 hospital bill that he can’t pay right before being taken off life support….GOTCHA!!!
Eh, it’s not that great, Louis. I got recruited to one of those schools for telekinetic prodigies, and they never got past teaching us to pass the mustard.

A lot of things are changing, mostly for the worse, but some things never change: school is boring and sucks. Play more video games, kids.
