I’ve got to see BeetleJuice again.

I used to love doing Day-O at music jams and Karaoke.

Most folks are familiar with Harry Belafonte’s version, but I’d never heard Shirley Bassey’s (Goldfinger & Diamonds Are Forever) version until this morning.

I think I like Shirley’s more. It sounds more like a “getting off work” song. More joyous.

Okay, is it just me or does everyone think of Bettlejuice now when they hear that song?

So that’s the actual words to that song! Back in the 90s (before they went defunct), department store Bon Marche used to use that song with the lyrics modified for advertising in their commercials, and as a result, I can only ever remember “Day-o! One day sale! One day only at the Bon Marche!” :P

A trip back in time. Harry Belafonte wrote and recorded ‘The Banana Boat Song’ way back in 1956 that became a #5 Billboard hit and made him a star. It has been covered and satirized endlessly since then.
