A hundred miles or two to the north and east of me are aspen trees with their white bark. When the turn, all the leaves go gold; none of this pink and red and orange foolishness, just whole mountainsides suddenly the color of saffron. The leaves have probably fallen by now, but about three weeks ago it would have been glorious.
We had an unusually hot and dry summer in Michigan. The two maples in my front yard usually provide a combined spectacular color display but are so different this year. One got only occasional rain water and what its roots could extract from the nearby flower beds. The birdbath and some flowers are at the base of the other tree, which is now way ahead in leaf color and brilliance.
Sometimes knowing the why and the How kills the beauty and the magic. I never watch the how they did it scenes in movies and it totally ruined Spiderman for me when the actor opened the movie in his British accent welcoming us to the theatre.

It seems that Little Rosie was more concerned about the fun than the science…

Where I live, it rains when the leaves change color and fall. And jumping into a pile of wet, soggy leaves is not a fun thing to do.

Here in north Texas, the majority of our trees go from green to brown. I haven’t seen any true fall colors since we moved from Denver.

Despite his fear of fractions and love for comic books, Jimbo is clearly an intelligent and educated man.
