From Grog’s expression it seems he has played it that way before.

My Brother could have used this info. These days he’s good, but being the seventh kid he may have been crying for attention threw bad life decisions…

“TAG” can also be what would match with “ATC” on a strand of DNA.

“Thymine, Adenine, and Guanine” matches with “Adenine, Thymine, and Cytosine”. (A matches with T and C matches with G.)

Is this ‘Tag’ a game of keep away or a game of ‘Tag’ Wrestling? Grog seems more of the wrestling sort of fella. And Roman Candles in a wrestling match would be very interesting I would think.

We played tag with bottle rockets, when we could get them.

A good question to ask Wiley’s Dictionary is how could Wiley know what Roman Candles were before the Roman Empire was founded? (Weren’t the Romans called Huns or Goths back then?)

Very important to wear natural fibers (cotton or wool, preferably) when participating in Roman Candle battles. A ball cap and safety glasses would also represent a good choice in a string of bad ones.

You know they wouldn’t have put it in the dictionary if someone hadn’t done it before!

I would have thought “With” would be the only way to play!

So many games are better without Roman candles. Although they do provide a way of being a sore loser at many board games.

A hazard people rarely think about: keep Roman Candles away from high voltage line, especially if somebody is going to hold it. The trail is ionized for just long enough to allow the high voltage to flash over.

Growing up a farm, we (as kids) used to play “See Tag” where all you had to do to “tag” someone was to see them and then shout it out saying something like “I see you” (usually while pointing and calling out their name). That person would then become “it” – they would have to close their eyes and count to 10 (or more – whatever we decided on) to give the other players (especially the person who was just “it”) to run and find another place to hide. We had lots of room and trees and buildings to hide behind (and in). Players were allowed to move as the person “it” was searching for them.

Reminds me of a scene from “The Sons of Katie Elder” about two cowboys having a duel with Roman Candles and a hot ball goes into one of the cowboys pants.

Me and my brother used to have roman candle duels on papaw’s farm. We’d put on jeans and a jean jacket, soak ourselves in water and then go at it. When a fireball hit you it turned the water to steam and you had to rub it real fast to make it stop. We intentionally aimed low to avoid heads and faces. Probably land us and our parents in jail these days.
