We have peafowl flocks around our home because it’s near a peafowl reserve a few kilometers from here and they are protected as the national birds (I am in India).
There were THREE adult peacocks in the group till about a fortnight ago. To see them dance off against each other in front of a group of totally blasé females was a sight! Nowadays, we see only the largest of them with the hens he has two heavy stacks of the tail feathers on his back – majestic to see open and even in flight.
My mom has always fed them (and sundry other birds) for 20-odd years, cooking rice every day! The only complaint she has is when they start sounding off from one of our gateposts, late at night!
Reminds me when the transition to color was happening…‘NBC; in living color’ & the peacock would open up. Something like that. Mind you, these are fuzzy memories from half a century ago…
Another talent, and the only reason I like them, is that they are terrific snake hunters. If you want to have a snake free area buy peafowls. And ear plugs.

Peacocks are sometime kept as guard animals. They can and will squawk very loudly any intruders.

One definition of a bird is a feathered animal that lays eggs.
Peacocks are birds and are feathered.
Do peacocks lay eggs?

Cool! I have an ad at the bottom of the screen. It’s hidden, but when I scroll, I see “Perfect Poop in 7 days”.

But Peacocks can’t sing, only holler!!!
cmxx almost 3 years ago
“Screech” is more like it. “Holler” is a gentle murmur in comparison.

We had a peacock living in our neighborhood once.
The only thing anyone liked about it was the tail feathers.

One time, I was having lunch at the Zoo, and a peacock came over to my table and ate some of my French fries.

Just don’t ask him to ‘sing’!
