is it kind of a good thing Watterson didn’t let Calvin be in the Cub Scouts too long?

Just read some “Archie and Veronica” out loud and dozens of people will show up to tell you to be quiet and stop reading that drivel.

Your father must have jawboned you into joining the scouts Calvin. You don’t strike me as one who would like group activities.

That stuffed tiger seems tad sensible than the six year old brat.

Nowadays, a young kid like Calvin will only have to bring his smartphone with the GoComics app.

Maybe you’ll be rescued by a beagle selling cookies.

I ran away from home when I was 4 or 5. I packed my bag with my GI Joe and some match box cars. I didn’t go very far and my Mom came and pulled me home before I could get in to much trouble. I planned better the second time.

Cannot imagine Calvin with scouts.

With Calvin’s luck it will be the Girls Scout who find and rescue him. Of course, Hobbes will be the main attraction.

Ya’ gotta pack the necessities.

I remember a lot of the concept strips (back when Calvin’s hair was over his eyes) had him in a scout troop. I wonder why this wasn’t explored in later years.

Comic books are food for the soul. Alas, they’re not much good for tummies.

Two weeks later: “So, which comic book shall we eat today?”

Calvin would be in Cub Scouts, which has Packs and Dens. When we took Cubs on hikes we watched them very closely indeed!

Who wants to hang out with a bunch of boy scout bullies anyway!

Ahhh yes, when Bill Watterson originally had Calvin be part of a scout camp, before realizing by the end of 1986 it wasn’t working out well and that it’d be better if Calvin went on camping trips with his own family.

Hey Calvin! Are you afraid of bears or mountain lions? No? Ok then, don’t worry. They might not come around since you have no food.

Comix boox! Who needs anything else?

To paraphrase the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers: “Comics will get you through times of no food better than food will get you through times of no comics.”
