I remember that along with the four-pointed needle device for smallpox (which you got jabbed with multiple times), the syringe for the DPT (I’ll swear the needle was long enough to go through my arm), and measles. Didn’t have the mumps shot developed yet.
I don’t remember which one was administered on a sugar cube, but for Smallpox they would make several small cuts on my arm, then break an ampule and drip the contents on those cuts.
I grade school, in the late 50s, we kids received most of our vaccinations at school. The city health department probably thought it was the best way to take care of the greatest number of kids. We’d file into the gym by classrooms, permission slips in hand. If I remember right, those began after I had already had measles, mumps, and chicken pox.
I remember when when the oral polio vaccine came out. I had already gotten my shots. The oral vaccine was put on sugar cubes. Both were effective, but the one in the shot had killed virus while the oral one had live, attenuated virus. In the latter, all went well and the immunity often seemed better and quicker, but it had one bad side effect that it could (rarely) revert to the infectious form.

I remember doing that.

How about the smallpox vaccination. My arm swelled up big time.
Small pox is eradicated except for the weaponized stockpiles held by major governments run by politicians…….That’s it, no sleep for me tonight.
Prescott_Philosopher about 3 years ago
Yep. Been there, done that. Instead of getting an injection, the vaccine was administered orally.

I’m sure Pluggers also took something else on a sugar cube.

Pluggers are all at risk of tetanus? Or of catching the flu in previous years?
walt1968pat Premium Member about 3 years ago
Oh come on, only an idiot would have that be his last “vaccine!” Most pluggers are way smarter than that.

Down in the basement of old school #2, I was in the 4th grade. It was sweet so I asked for a second dose!

It evolved to that, not so much the first few years, ouch.

The last time I took anything on a sugar cube, it kept me busy for hours.

I remember scary times with polio at the time

You’re a Plugger if your last “minor” vaccine was Botox.
i_am_the_jam about 3 years ago
I wonder how many Pluggers got autism “because of those vaccines…” :P :P :P
david_42 about 3 years ago
Is Shingles considered major? I got both of them. Much worse than the Moderna, even the second dose.

This plugger got his second COVID shot last week. That’s not considered major? Or is McKee and anti-vaxxer?
anomalous4 about 3 years ago
I guess tetanus boosters, flu shots, shingles shots, & now COVID-19 shots don’t count, then?
ernie about 3 years ago
Me too. But my last sugar cube wasn’t a vaccine.

I’m definitely a plugger, but my last vaccine was a shingles one – part 1 and part 2, and I was an adult.

And they weren’t poisonous, like now!
