I have just revisited yesterday’s Calvin and Hobbes site and have left a new reply there.
Someone asked whether we have any theories for how Hobbes can do the things that he does. I gave the first reply by explaining that I first assumed Hobbes only did things in Calvin’s imagination but later realised that this can’t be true so my first explanation was that Hobbes started off as being alive only in Calvin’s imagination but was then brought to life by a mixture of his imagination and a psychic power. I gave two more possible explanations which you can find on yesterday’s site.
I revisited the site yesterday and found that someone had insisted that Hobbes is only alive in Calvin’s imagination so I restated that Hobbes is sometimes shown doing things when Calvin isn’t present. When I revisited the site again this morning, I found that I had been asked to give examples so I have chosen an example which can be found on yesterday’s site.
Hobbes true nature is very complex. There’s several examples that can’t be explained just by Cal’s imagination. Once, Calvin tried to be an escape artist and Hobbes tied him to a chair so well that Dad had trouble getting him untied. No possible way Cal could have done that himself

Calvin’s not gonna get what he wants for Christmas anyways. Mostly cuz it’s weapons, so why bother?

Santa has a lot of cameras all around the World and you’re constantly under surveillance . No chance to get away with it .

Santa’s latest means to keep an eye on children is Elf on a Shelf.

Susie would tell, Calvin. High expectations make for high pressure, methinks.

Human wolves never like being ratted out, it cramps their style.
Which us why we need a free and fearless press folks, that is committed to the truth.
Otherwise the wolves will feed on us all.

The boy down the street is always throwing snowballs at me. He’s so bad.

This is the same deterrent method the IRS uses.

Santa has special “Stool Pigeon” elves that rat you out in a heartbeat, they’re called “Parents”.

Calvin’s parents simply won’t get him the flame thrower he really wants.

Since Calvin misses most of the time anyway he could then claim he was being good because he missed on purpose.

“Fake it ’till you make it.” is a thing for a reason. Still, worth it though.

Sounds like Santa uses the same technique as the I.R,S. Intimidating a few keeps the rest of the unwashed masses in line.

I like to think that whenever a kids does something bad, some sort of “naughty alert” goes off at the workshop.

So leaning about Santa is little kids’ way of learning about law enforcement, very interesting.
