nstincts. Felines generally prefer flowing water over still water. That’s why there are so many videos of cats drinking out of faucets.

Our cat will purposely spill the water out of the bowl and then drink the spillt water.

My dogs preferred puddle water over bowl water. I wonder if it had something to do with public water chlorination.

Our dog used to do that too, he loved drinking from puddles even with a water bowl two feet away

Exactly. I can put fresh water in the bowl in the bathroom for Frito. I can also put fresh water in the bowl in the kitchen for Frito. And then he will go outside and drink out of a mud puddle.

Arlo needs to take the “Hint”. Luddie likes flavored water.

Never fails to happen. You can have 5 bowls of water for a dog, but where does he drink from? The toilet of course.

One of my cats started drinking water out of the toilet so I obligingly left the cover off for him. He’s now moved onto the sink and will just sit and stare at me until I turn it on just a small stream. He then moves on to getting his face and paws all wet then shake it off so the bathroom mirror is covered with water droplets. I have to clean the mirror everyday. Sheesh!

We keep two water bowls indoors for our clowder. We also have a water bowl on the enclosed front porch and one in the outdoor cat run. The one out back often has leaves, bugs, grass, fur or feathers in it and, of course, this is the one all the cats prefer. I’ve watched a cat wake up from a nap, go outdoors past two bowls get a drink out back and then return to their indoor nap.

Well drinking from a bowl is too civilized.

My cat has a water fountain that has a faucet, so it’s like the sink. She’d gotten to where she’d sit and wait until I turned the faucet on to warm up the water to wash up. Then she’d jump up and drink until I either got up or the water got too warm. The fountain takes care of some of that.

I don’t know enough about the habits of cats, but my dog is particular about his water. Finn will often ignore the water in his bowl if it isn’t cold any longer. He’ll wait for fresh water and ice cubes. He gets only bottled water — per his Veterinarian, if you don’t drink unfiltered tap water, your dog shouldn’t, either. Our city water has an excellent rating, but it still tastes like chlorine to me. So bottled water is used for drinking, ice cubes, and coffee/cocoa/tea.

Dogs too! I fill bowls all over the place to make it simple for them and they drink from a mud puddle.
