If I found a giant bug clinging to my window screen, in the middle of the night, with thunder and lightning overhead, laughing, my only reasonable choice would be to move to Antarctica. Immediately.

Since it’s July now, it’s technically a July bug.

I would rather have a July bug on the outside of the screen than a Christmas light bug inside the house. As much as I love them, it creeps me out if I’m lying in bed at night and look up to see one flashing on the ceiling. I have to get up, capture and release.

I lived in an area that was plagued with June Bugs. Finally figured out that the extremely ugly bugs that infested the lawn… was the cause. I then learned how to aerate the lawn in March to May!! Much less bugs in June!!

Guess the July Bug is just looking for a little romance! ;)

Perhaps, in an ironic reversal, that dreaded weapon, the No-No Spray Bottle, could be deployed against their nemesis! (And then the People could lightly mist themselves with the water while they’re at it.)

The June/July but is the one storyline that I don’t like. Hope it not extended to the following week.

My sister(transplant from FL to MA over 30 years ago) says a humid night in the western suburbs of Boston (Groton/Ayer) is when it only gets down to 68F. Here in Tampa we do not see that low temperature (20C to foreigners) from mid June to late October…… The dew point outside my house is now 74F I know the northerners suffer from the heat but it is not at all like what we have here in FL or the rest of the SE!

    The Meese and I

Beatrix: It’s great seeing the kittens all go to their furrever homes, but I’m going to miss them.

King Elvis: We are very grateful for the work you have done here.

Beatrix: Now I must decide what I’m going to do next.

    King Elvis: About that…

Queen Goldie: Bea, there are so many cats and kittens who need furrever homes. Would you be willing to stay here and teach those who need homes here in Yessiam?

    Beatrix: Yes, I am!

*We all need to be loved!

And we can feel the love!

And when we show our love,

    It is,

    Wonderful!*

17 year cicadas are supposed to be coming out. Since our neighborhood started in 05, there aren’t any around here.

17 years ago at the place I lived, I had to snow shovel the shells off the sidewalk

This morning at around 2 AM I was awoken from a decent sleep by a particularly insistent housefly buzzing around my head, I’m one of those people who has a difficult time getting back to sleep if awoken in the middle of the night. Thankfully this time I was able to drift back off otherwise I’d be a lot more cranky.

I have cans of Raid within grabbing range in my most used rooms because I have an aversion to stomping or squashing bugs, and the unusually wet weather has forced bugs in to the house despite my tight house ringed in pesticide. The spray can of death for Jules!

LOVE the July bug! My cats would probably want to play with it or kill it and eat it. Though the one time we had a tarantula in the house, they just stood and stared at it.

Today is National Mojito Day—seems to be a week for the UA crowd (Unabashed Alcoholics). I’ve never had one, but it sounds better than a piña colada.

The very odd thing is, it seems most tropical alcoholic drinks contain a fair to egregious amount of sugar or equivalent, and are often served containing ice. How can drinks containing alcohol and sugar, both or which raise body temperature, be considered “cooling,” regardless of actual drink temperature?

Perhaps the idea is to get drunk enough you don’t realize how miserable you are in the heat, humidity, and bugs.

Speaking of bugs (“Hi Jules!” Waving frantically to my aviator hero.) Consuming a lot of sweet things makes you more attractive to insects. When I gave up soft drinks, two things happened. I lost ten pounds. I got bugged by insects less. Many insects see infrared, so anything that raises your temperature, even slightly, makes you more visible—especially to mosquitoes. Sugar also makes you smell different, and any insect normally attracted to nectar will be attracted to you (also mosquitoes.) That high pitched whine you hear is not your tinnitus …
